how easy can a 268 searay weekender capsize?

Lime 4X4,

I have basically the same boat, I did a windlass install this year: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12550&highlight=bow+pulpit

I have 30' of GR 70 Transport chain (overkill? probably...) 5/16". Spliced to that I have 150' of 1/2" rope. (rode?)

I got the Lewmar V1 when it was on sale this year.

The only "issue" I have is that the rope doesn't lay well in the anchor locker,as it is a bit smallish to accommodate this much rope/chain. I have to have someone (wife, kid, me if I have to...) push the rope/chain forward in the anchor locker when I get about 1/2 way done bringing it in.

Having said that, it is still WAY WAY WAY better than bringing that much in by hand. Easily the best upgrade I did this winter.

Randy.

That turned out great. Atleast now i have an idea how to make the pulpit. What did u use for backing under the bow?

For the 2 front carriage bolts, I used some 4"x4" square 1/4" plate stainless, followed by stainless fender washers and nylocks.

For the 2 rear ones, I had to put a piece of PT 2x4 across the span, with fender washers and nylocks.

Again, probably overkill, but I never have to worry about it again.

Ive got 300' of 1/2" rope and 30' of chain with a 22 lb claw anchor.

We were out on the chesapeake bay for a few days. On our 3rd day out as we were coming around a place called turkey point something left loose in my outdrive. So there i i'm with no way to move the boat. I threw out the bow anchor. We were getting tossed around pretty good from all the waves and wakes.I few times i thought she was going under. My boat sits pretty high out of the water and my bow on a few occassions was almost hitting the water. Here is a pic of our boat.

You just have no luck at all... Turkey Point is one of the worst places in this area that I can think of to lose power. There are about 6 different rivers, and the main thoroughfare between Turkey Point and Hart Millers Island with boats coming in and out from all directions. With the tides flowing in and out of the rivers and all of the wakes coming from every direction, this area is prone to some extremely "confused" seas. Going through there under power can be really fun sometimes.

Glad you survived it.

Michael

Yeah i even hate going thru that area up on plane.I will be heading one way then all of a sudden i'm going a different way.I have a rather decent size boat and it's fun. We see sail boats out there and jon boats now that's just sick..lol

In 25 ft of water with only 60 feet of rode out you were only about a 2:1 ratio. That doesn't seem like enough rode to allow the boat to move. I typically never go less than a 3:1 ratio, most of the time I am at 5:1 or above.
