How can i make my boat faster?

They are powered by water pressure from the stern drive. Get some sand, trash and the sender can stop working or show the wrong speed. :smt024

If you have not gone WOT yet to see how fast you are actually capable of going then you don't know if you even need to do anything to go faster yet do you?

true.. and all of the time its in very choppy water so im hopping alot..

Getting the most from what you got

Reduce weight, Don't carry anything that is not essential for safety and the days recreational plan.

Reduce Drag: Drop the bimini top, keep passengers low in the boat when WOT, keep the bottom squeeky clean and slick. Don't use your tabs more than is absolutely essential. Twin screws? Keep engines synched as slow screw isn't working its dragging. Balance ship loads so weight is distributed fore and aft and PT/STB. Run in water that is deeper than shallow when you have a choice.

Maximize Torque: Make sure the engines are always tuned and peek for cooling. Make sure you're getting all your engines have to give.

Then learn to accept that you have the boat you've got, cut back the RPMs save the fuel for another tip and relax and have a blast there is just as much fun to be had a 24 knots as there is at 28.

more speed

1. sell the old boat, for safety reasons the mfg designed it that way.
2. Put in a bigger motor and a different leg.

3. buy a boat designed to handle the speeds that you want.

4. Mkae sure up upgrade you skill level to handle the extra speed.

Be safe and happy boating.

PS no drinking and driving at those new high speeds :smt001

STIHLBOLTS mentioned trimming the outdrive. If you are not doing this, it's free and good for a few mph. I knew nothing about this when I first started boating.

On that 3.0 you could get a Stainless Steel Prop, and they say you can upgrade your spark arrester. Other than a tune up including plugs wires etc. I think thats it.

Also Mount that GPS where you can see it, and play with the trim a little bit, you can make a driffernce.

I met a guy with a new Crownline on Lake George a couple years ago who could'nt under stand how trimming could make any difference. Claimed you should only use that button after the boat was on the trailer so you don't drag your prop.

Timing the out drives??? Please tell me more.

I have had 49.8 MPH on the GPS, we were on a river that was smooth as glass, and 1/2 - 3/4 tank fuel, full fresh water, 2 adults with enough gear on board for over nighting ( full cooler, full fridge, sleeping bags, extra cloths ect.)

I switched props to a 22 pitch and now lucky to hit 45 now.

this all sounds good.. im going to need a new prop soon anyway so when im ready ill see what the next step up is without messing up anything.. lol

great man.. yea it was just a question... you know when you have a car you can do things to get a littlt more hp

I am the biggest newbie here so I may be way off track here. I would think aerodynamics would play a factor in overall speed. Have everyone on the boat remove thier tops and apply liberal amounts of suntan oil so that the air flows more smoothly through the cockpit. If it doesn't get you a few more MPH it will definitely take your mind off the problem. This is purely a theory and nothing more.
Mahalo,
Royce.

P.S. I think your boat looks best when it's just sitting still. The 185 is a very popular boat on Oahu. I wanted the red one but the dealer price over here is above 25000. Just couldn't justify that price in my mind.

The most dense medium usually dictates what contributes to drag the most.... Both below the water line and people in the boat (and I'm not referring to mass with regards to the people).

Gary,
I understood the Walker engineering sub-harmonic distortion balancers would give the bigger boats improvements in the vicinity of 1.5 knots SOG at WOT, assuming steady COG and consistent turbocharger boost (derived from ambient air temperatures +/- 5 degrees centigrade at the intakes.) I did not buy these balancers to have to fiddle around with medium density. What gives? Do I need to go to wastegates on my Holsets?
Every knot counts.

When we link up at Urbanna I need to see how you have calibrated your balancers. I am still getting a whine at WOT.

regards
Skip

Actually, the whine, apparently, is caused by the 3 year old. You were close, though.

Your boat is easly capable of 55 to 70 mph without any modifications. The problem is your removing it from the trailer!
