How can i make my boat faster?

Sorry to say, but your kinda screwed with the 3.0.

I'd say you must be doing at least 35 to 38 mph WOT with 2 people?

Not with someone's mother on the back. Loose the weight, you'll get a couple of extra mph out of the boat.

:smt038 :smt038 :smt038

Especially if it's my momma on the back!!! :smt043

Or you can take all of the Sea Ray decals off and replace them with Baja emblems.... I heard this will ad 10 HP!

Now seriously though, The only thing I can think of is possibly getting a higher pitch prop. But remember that what you will gain at top end you will lose on getting out of the hole.

P.S. I don't think Stihl meant for you to loose weight I think he meant to take his mother off the back to lighten the boat.

oh ok ill take his mom off the back.. in the gulf there are tons of milfs out there.. thats what im talkin about! But a higher pitch prop.. hmmm.. im ean my boat goes fast (sory its not fast for the rich big boat owners) but for me its ok and i just wanted to add a little bit to it..

Not trying to start a war... I was just simply saying that with the 3.0 your kinda stuck for getting more speed.

And my big boat is 17 years old. That's all I could afford!

haha.. na its cool.. yea its funny because when i went to the dealer we looked at the 4.2 and i told him i wanted that boat.. the 4.2 was on the floor and i ended up paying the price on the sticker but got a 3.0 :smt017 ... but i could be wrong.. im pretty sure tho.

on a side note.. before the taxes and stuff.. i paid 19,000 for my boat.. is that right? or should of it been cheaper if it was the 3.0?

Actually you'd be surprised the bigger boats actually don't go faster as far as I know. Maybe the bigger sport boats like mine which is a 240SD with the 5.0L engine but I've never opened it up so I have no idea how fast it will go.

The bigger boats are cruisers and are not ment to go fast.

These are not go-fast boats anyway. Sea Ray designs the hulls to be safe and stable at all speeds so they give a comfortable and secure ride. Speed is not a priority in determining the hull shape. As a result, pouring more fuel in, or changing cam timing, or screwing with the prop pitch hardly ever get you anything but a trade off. A little more speed and a lot less low speed torque which means it takes a lot longer to plane and limits your pulling power or load you can carry and still get the boat to plane.

If you are hell-bent to make more speed, about the only way is to put enough horsepower...i.e. cubic inches, supercharger, compression, etc in the boat. Once you get enough horsepower and torque you can increase lift and that translates to less wetted area and more speed.......did I mention that less wetted area on modified or deep v's usually means squirrelly handling?

Sea Ray Jim has a Sundeck he has done this to and I'll let him discuss the cost and benefits, but I have a friend who spent about $30K on a pair of blue printed 502's with superchargers in a 32 Pachanga.......the boat makes you smile just to hear it idle....if you start the engines up in Florida, your momma can hear it in Alabama. Driving it at 72 mph is a blast, but you absolutely have your hands full just making the boat track straight since there is only about 6" of hull in the water once she gets hooked up.

If you want to go fast then you have the wrong boat....go look for a Formula, Cigarette or Fountain.

no im not into FAST boats, or jet boats, or cigarette... i was just looking for some pep!.. i love my boat and plan in the future on getting a 36 ft cruiser! its like when you got a car and add headers and an air intake.. nothing like a supercharger.. just wanted it to go a little faster nothing big man

The very best you could possibly get is going to be around 40-42 with 2 people and 1/4 tank of fuel on that boat. My 176 with 3.0 ran that speed with the wife and I aboard and to 43 mph on smooth river water. That was measured per GPS and not the dream o meter. It would be a colossial waste of money and time to try and make your boat go any faster because it is not designed to do that. Short of you pulling the 3.0 and dropping in a 5.0L 260 hp or 350 with a bravo 1 drive your pretty much stuck where you are at.

thats cool.. thats why i was asking all of you because you all have many more hours under your belt and would know.. and i guess i got my answer! With me and my wife in the boat and my son and my mom... lets figure..

i weigh---330
wife weighs----120
son weighs---60
and my mom weighs 160 so lets add it up...

thats 670 lbs... and we get to 35 mph... with me and my wife only we still get up to the same speed.. its funny..

Have you crushed the prop? :smt017

How much other stuff you got on board?
Coolers, anchors, ski's, wake boards, life jackets? It all adds up to weight.

Have you attempted to trim the motor to get a better plan angle?

Lots of factors. :smt024
