How about for starters, stop making every bleeping one of these shootings a national story?

It seems to me that we can link the frequency and magnitude of these mass shootings to the onset of the 24/7 cable news industry and the proliferation of the internet, especially delivered to our cell phones. Everyone of these sick pricks seeks fame in going out in a blaze of glory and taking as many others with them as possible. If our society ignored them and made it so that their acts would garner zero airtime, perhaps in time these events will pale in comparison. How off base does this line of thinking seem?
Back in the day, there was an hour of evening news and a story in the local paper about a shooting or a serial killer. These were local problems that did happen in many cities around the country or world for that matter but rarely did they rise to national attention or demand the attention of the white house.
The media does limit content like not showing the gory bullet riddled bodies and they edit video to not show offensive content, Well lets pass laws limiting the glorification of mass murder for financial gain for a start. I don't see the up side to society for these stories to be broadcast nationally 24/7.

The libs will never go for it. Then what would they use to justify the abolishment of the second amendment?! They'll never let a good crisis go to waste.

I know..... maybe cover the fact that there were over 50-people shot in Chicago this past Memorial Day weekend and 9 of them died!! No that won't work either, that would highlight how terrible the libs are at running their cities/states.

I think it would certainly help reduce mass shootings. Like you said these sicko's see the fame. If there was absolutely no coverage on it, I bet half of these fuckers wouldn't of taken so many lives with them. However, I can't see this ever happening

I think this goes much deeper than the 24/7 news media. Every country covers news 24/7. We are the only country with mass killings in the schools. I love my guns and all for them, but every state needs a background check for people who want to buy. Just like I want a check for National voting. We tend to pick and choose which checks we want, but this is a US issue. Does media help...no, but we have lots of laws and none handle what appears to be the ability of people wanting to commit crimes from easily obtaining weapons.

This recent Texas shooter passed a background check with no issues...but what your describing will create a national registry...

Solid, well thought out suggestion EXCEPT the “pass laws” part. I agree with everything else.

1. We the people need to quit thinking that more laws will solve any problem. Laws only increase the control the ruling class has over us commoners. No more laws, period. We have more than we should now. In fact, we need to start purging a lot of laws.
2. When the government starts deciding which specific story can be covered and which one cannot, we will have a complete dictatorship run by lunatics and zealots, oh wait….too late for that!!! The government already decides which stories will be covered and who gets banned on twit and fake book. :)

The only way, in my opinion to fix this country is to:
1. Two-term limits on EVERY elected federal position. (State and local positions can be controlled by voting with your feet like NY and CA are having.) We have to stop this career politician bullshit once and for all. Thoughts of a career “serving” and getting rich, famous, powerful will corrupt all humans. I actually believe serving in Congress should be done the same way Jury Duty is done. You get randomly selected from the pool of eligible candidates and paid the same as you normally make for your one term. Could we do any worse than our precious, incorruptible, financially lucrative election process?

2. If we are going to laws to ban anything, ban internet usage for all people under 21, or at least 18. It is unregulated space. Minors are exposed to perverts, con-men, pornography, and extremism that we would never allow in person. Our youth are being poisoned at an alarming rate. We restrict minors from bars, tobacco, alcohol, firearms, R movies, voting booths, and strip clubs while leaving the dangerous internet free and clear. Parents can supervise internet usage at home with their kids only. No open access in libraries. No school exposure. No open wifi. No smart phones.

And, no, our schools will function just fine, better, by removing all internet in the classroom. Teachers will have to actually stand up and teach with a piece of chalk and paper. They will have to teach math and English and dissect frogs in real life.

If every sale (including private sales) need a background check - that is your registry!

What do you think happens to all the paper 4473s when a FFL closes? And now they have electronic 4473s...

I have to register all my vehicles and have a license to drive them.

All guns should be registered and owners should have a license to use them.

Good luck with that. Laws / registration won't fix this problem (see Chicago).

But you bring up a good point - vehicles kill many more than guns - we should outlaw vehicles!

Where is driving in the constitution?

Driving on public roads is a privilege, not a right, and you actually 'don't' have to register your vehicle nor have a license. If you do, it's registered with the state.

Every gun owner should be a member of a well regulated militia.

You may want to check with those in your neighborhood as Tennessee just passed constitutional carry not long ago...

The nut jobs are crawling out of the woodwork...guy just shot up a hospital in Tulsa.:(

But it doesn't fit the narrative (black guy used a handgun / rifle - not an AR15)....so it'll be buried by the MSM...

If the left didn’t have mass shootings they wouldn’t have talking points….. it’s all politics
But they do have mass shootings, weekly, in places like Chicago, Ferguson, Baltimore, NYC, LA and Minneapolis. Weird how they never talk about it tho....
