Here is an Idea, Possible resolution to reduce the gun violence....

ya know...after someone mentioned mandatory term limits earlier I had a thought. These politicians get elected and 5-10 years later are worth maybe 100x their net worth than they were when elected. What other 'job' does that happen at? Likely not even CEO's. Sure they get paid alot but Tim Cook worked his way up and likely didn't increase his net worth 10x in 5 years like these politicians are doing.
I'm sure I royally screwed up this post and made it more confusing than it needs to be...lol...but I'd bet Pelosi makes as much as many Fortune 500 CEO's. I know she makes millions trading options. I have been trading options for years and see her name all around. In fact there are groups that buy what she is buying and usually her buys are followed by a major news event that she is likely privy to. Point being, they complain about big CEO's making too much while they are likely making just as much

Fair enough, please advise of the other countries that have had teenage school killings this year.

This recent Texas shooter passed a background check with no issues...but what your describing will create a national registry...
I'm ok with everyone knowing I own guns. We have a national registry for drivers license. TSA cards, TWIC cards, heck every lawyer knows when I get a speeding ticket. I'm also ok with a national registry of voters.

I'm sure you know your history...what comes after registration? This really isn't anything new...nor is anything the dems are doing....

Until they coming knocking on your door to confiscate them, ok.

Every gun, $9.95
Every bullet, $10,000
You will reduce the random threat to 12 billionaires, who are too busy being billionaires.
Wait, let me buy some Bitcoin first!

I too grew up back in the day when we had 3 TV channels and the local news came on at 6 and the national news at 6:30. I don't recall hearing about any shootings like this then. Did it happen? I honestly do not know, my assumption is no.

I am struggling to figure out what the difference is now versus then. We all knew or heard of "that kid" in school, but they never did this. This man kills his doctor about a week after back surgery because he was having pain? I've had shoulder, knee and elbow surgery and I can tell you after 1 week it still hurt.

Would he have even thought to do this 40 years ago when there was no 24 news and no internet? I think there is some truth to this.

Dude, a manly goal, the pinnacle of gun ownership, enhanced by rotating a stuffed Merganser to open the false fireplace mantle revealing a favorite AR and it's ready mags.
Maybe it's an upper midwest thing. My buddy has a walk-in as well that he had built when he was building a new house. It can be used as a bug-out room with its own ventilation system. It's not completely hidden but for an interior looking 42" closet door that needs to be opened 1st.

The first incident I remember was the 1986 Post Office shooting in Edmond OK. There was TV coverage of it, but not the 24/7 type of coverage we have today.

One of the big differences is the deinstitutionalization of metal health care. Since that time both homelessness and these shooting events have increased.

See, it's just more proof how different men and women are...we want a walk in gun safe when the new house is built, the females want a walk in pantry.

I been saying this for YEARS! Who spends millions to get elected to a < $250k salary job?! Crooks, Grifters, and Conmen.

True story...back in '74 I knew a guy. He had a pretty young wife and two kids, one just barely walking and the other 2-3yo. There was a mentally slow kid in the area, it was rural, scattered small farms, everyone knew everyone else.

The slow kid killed all three of them with a knife, the mother first, he actually chased the kids around the house until he caught each of them and killed them. He had went to the house to visit, said he wanted a glass of water and was invited in, that's when he surprise attacked the mother.

He had been telling his school friends that he was going to be famous one day, everybody would know who he was. Come to find out he had been reading about the Manson murders. The cops figured that's where he got his ideas.

I'm thinking the crazies were/are always around but with a lot less news coverage maybe their brains weren't so saturated with the warped shit. Lets face it...Charlie Manson and his group got more attention than superstars.

Heck, it's been 50+ years and most folks still know who Charlie Manson is.

Wow, Move the goal posts much? You start off by making a categorically false statement, then when you get called out on it, you switch tactics by asking me to do your homework to help you make your flawed argument.
Perhaps you should stick to the kiddie pool skippy.
Wow, aren't you a big boy.

Here you go Big Boy. I would still say no other country has this issue, but the US. This is total of the from 2009-2018.

School shootings are a form of gun violence that involves an attack via firearms and takes place at an educational institution, such as a primary school, secondary school, or university. While many school shootings are resolved with zero fatalities, many others result in gun-related deaths, and some are also considered mass shootings because of the number of people injured or killed by the attack. The United States has endured hundreds more school shootings than any other country in recent years.

19 Countries with the Most School Shootings (total incidents Jan 2009-May 2018 - CNN):
Are you proud that Mexico was second with a whopping 8 incidents over 10 years. I guess you still don't see a real problem in the US.

Mental Health. But feel free to register your guns since you think that will help reduce criminals using guns in federal gun free zones...

FWIW, I've looked at the very data you posted and much more. There are problems with doing these comparisons, definitions and reporting quality vary greatly. Depending on who is collecting the data even here in the states the standards vary.

What is the image that comes with 'school shooting'? I believe for most it's of a Sandy Hook or Uvalde and the larger the number the worse it looks. Would it be a surprise to know that two adults in their 40's got in a road rage pissing match or something, pulled into a school parking lot to have it out, started shooting, and ended up in the 'school shooting' list.

How about when one kid shot another kid with a BB gun while in their dorm room, that makes the 'school shooting' list too. So does the teacher who was packin' and had an accidental discharge. So does the kids from rival gangs that happen to be shooting at each others cars while driving by on the street next to a school. These are real incidents.

This from a CNN article on 'school shootings'...

The parameters CNN followed in this count are:

  • A shooting that involved at least one person being shot (not including the shooter)
  • A shooting that occurred on school grounds
  • We included grades K through college/university level
  • We included gang violence, fights and domestic violence
  • We included accidental discharge of a firearm as long as the first two parameters are met
Gang violence? Gang violence should be it's own separate category no matter where it happens. How about the other effects of gangs on a school that hamper their function? Gangs and drugs in our schools...aren't kids lives being ruined or worse by this environment. But using Chicago as an example we can't talk about that....crime isn't the problem it's the guns.....hey, that's what she said.

Gents, I enjoy a healthy respectful debate as much as the next guy. I love banter and wit as well. This thread, like a lot of others, is turning into 2-3 folks name calling and pissing on each other. If you want to do that can you go start your own thread so I do not continue to receive useless distracting alerts on this one that I think may be meaningful?

Practice some Harmony please.

:)

So, we have more mental health issues than other countries? That’s the reason we have considerably more school shootings? And church shootings? Or medical building shootings? Or grocery store shootings?

What are other countries doing differently, one wonders?

It can’t all be the fault of CNN, can it?

You really aren't worth my time as you've really proven your intelligence on many other threads, but here goes.

Who is actively trying to fix the problem @Cdillerud - our elected leaders sure aren't!

If you really think anything the resident discussed last night will help - look at Chicago.... see how more laws help! What criminals will suddenly follow these new laws? Murder is illegal. Guns in federal gun free zones are illegal. How can you make it more illegal?

If you were going to do violent act - would you do it where law abiding citizens are disarmed or not?

It's OK, we know you are anti gun. But live up to your anti gun sentiments and don't call men with guns (the police) when you need help.
