Having trouble understanding current events

I have had employees with master degrees that were as dumb as rocks….
How many times over the last few years on CSR have some of the dumbest statements came from the most “educated”? It happens all the time.

We live in a world where those that have never dug a hole with a shovel, design shovels. The now retired manager at WM in Indy told me he got a call from a new WM buyer that just graduated college. The kid visited the store to learn what was going on, he nor his family had never boated in any way, and this boy was choosing what items we boaters need and would have available to us from WM.

No wonder WM is so screwed up. I bet they were founded and built by boaters that understood our needs but today are ran by unknowing bean counters…

Woody, So what she is saying is that she was smart enough to get into college but not smart enough, or forward thinking enough to understand that she was borrowing $86K?
Get outa here!

What the hell did she think she was signing when she borrowed that money? Or did a banker hold a gun to her head to force her to sign those loan docs?

(See post #1055 above)
The problem is that high schools are pushing kids into to college to make themselves look better. Everyone DOESN'T need to go to college but they tell you that you do to have a chance to be successful. It's just a screwed up world.

THIS! I know several schools that are constantly bragging about their college acceptance rates and ask for money to keep doing it. A kid going to trade school hurts this…

A lot of that was pushed by parents over the years. However, some districts are pushing back on it. Our district, for example, now talks about "college or career ready" realizing not everyone is going to college.

I was talking to a building contractor the other day and he said he hired a high school grad for the summer then off to college he was going. The contractor asked him to cut a 2x4 12”-5/16….. the kid asked how many lines is that on the tape measure.
Now how is college going to help this poor kid?….. government public education has failed all of us….. and we continue to watch it happen

Blueone, in the kid's defense, I give him credit for asking the question rather than cutting it wrong. If the kid wasn't more a load carrier ("kid, take that pile of 2x4's over to Bob") how was he to know how many lines it was on the tape?

The kid's gotta learn somewhere/sometime and that was an opportunity the boss f'd up instead of teaching how to read a tape.

No no no …. You can’t defend our public school system from teaching basic skills
When I went to high school we had a wood working shop, auto body, welding , fabricating , machine shop, small engine repair, fabricating and drafting…. You had to take every shop class…. Today it’s gone
Why?…… so we can figure out our true gender ?….. and ask my boss how many lines on a tape measure ….. the little phuckr should have googled it

I'm one who took all those shop classes except the autobody and welding, etc. Our shop classes were woodshop, metal shop, mechanical drawing, print shop, etc. Best classes I ever had as far as using those skills I learned and am still using them.

I don't need a damned instructor to tell me what gender I am.

I never took any of those classes when I was in school. My Dad was self employed, weekends and summers I got a good dose of that whether I wanted it or not, didn't appreciate it until I got older.

Dude, I had a kid who couldn't figure out how to roll down the manual windows in our delivery van. :)

There's a reason owners manuals went from telling you how to set points to now warning you NOT to drink the battery acid...

I've been reading about how great the student loan forgiveness is. The students education debts are robbing them of their lives, it is stressful, it is a burden.

Now that Biden has decided to pay 10-20K for their votes it will wipe the slate clean for about 20 million student debt holders, finally they will be able to start their lives....free of the suffocating education debts they all struggle to pay I've read many will now become homeowners, life will be wonderful.
