Grilling on the boat

maybe if you're cooking for 10 people every week then I can see the point, or if you raft with big boat boaters cause they eat a lot.
Then you'll need a larger holding tank too. :smt115 Maybe there is some way to recycle the methane in the holding tank to fuel the grill.

I pretty much grilled every weekend and I think I went through 2 of those green canisters. I bought them for $2 each. trying to find a place to put one of those tanks isn't worth the trouble. maybe if you're cooking for 10 people every week then I can see the point, or if you raft with big boat boaters cause they eat a lot.
Mike.....you know I have 4 kids right.:smt021
I do, but seriously I think I'll do just that, buy the little cannister but I may buy the hose extension. I've never liked that little regulator and tank hanging overboard

Ummm. You go ahead and recycle your holding tank methane to cook your food. I'll anchor far, far away...... upwind. :smt001

A friend of ours has the cloth covered fenders in the baskets on the bow. He pulled the fender out of one of the cloth covers and then filled it with the propane canisters and a towel. The towel fills out the cloth bag and makes it look like there is a fender in it. It also keeps them from banging around. It's safe and simple.

Anyone else getting the stronge urge to BBQ??? It's 5:30 here and now I'm hungry too! Where is that Weber Grill place.....

4 kids = 1/4 eating capacity of big boat boater.

I have the whole formula if you want it...

1 big boat boater can eat 4 times a normal adult. 4 times divided by normal seasonal consumption= 4 canisters at $2/canister= $8

Now it gets more complicated if you have to figure in big boat boater and big boat boater's family. you have to take into consideration the kids age, wife's age + the square root of time married to big boater times the number of years owned of said boat divided by previous boat sizes. Big boat boaters age, years worked, years not worked and alcohol consumption over the last 5 years and that days intake have to be figured in as well. If the big boat boater is retired or on an extended leave from work, you have to double their intake divided by the number of days out of work times .2 if they run diesel. Now if you figure in what is being cooked, hot dogs add 1.5 times the cooking capacity to each canister because of buns and the fact the they are already cooked so you don't need to factor in the overcook to be safe formula. Pork chops and seafood have the least efficient per canister per person cooking time. To get really accurate you have to also figure in the number of times they make whoopie divided by the number of kids time the square root of baby sitters, but I don't want to bore you with the details.

So I'll spend the $8. Who knew
So where is the cut off line and you're considered a big boater 30'?

So in the equation do I use feet or pounds as the conversion rate for the big boater? I wasn't sure.

Got a head ache after reading and thinking about all that. I think I need a drink, Lets just pull into the dock side restaurant:lol::smt043:lol:

OK Wesley how far off topic has this one gone?

Well right after we took possesion of Nehalennia we bought a Magma "Newport" grill.

We used to have the Kettle Style on Nehalennia II

I have waited until now to figure out how I wanted to mount the grill. I've done some searching on Magmaproducts.com and decided to get the 28" stand with mounting base

I will mount it in between the ladder on the swimstep. This way when we're swiming it's covered and out of the way, and when we're grillin' I can open the hatch, attach the leg (which will stow nicely in the transom locker) and stand with plenty of room on the swimstep.

Local Boating Store Harbor Marine had it for $64

I just need to figure out an umbrella set-up in case it's raining.

We have a 320, and the rod holders if used for grilling, puts the grill very close to the gas caps , does anyone see where this might be a problem....? Does anyone notice how close the gas vapor and overflow ports are to their grilling, and mayne the ports are nearly right below....I'm a little to cautiuos for grilling directly on the boat...We take our grill off the boat and take it to the grass or sidewalk...

You can see on the pic I posted above. I installed the grill on the Starboard side for that reason, the fuel fill and vent were on the port side.

On the New boat it's much further aft of the fuel fill and vent, but the swimstep is on the same port side. I don't see it being an issue.

Todd, your fotunate to have only one feul fill, the 320 has one each side...

Yeah, well I count my blessings now that Gas prices have shot up.
You need two grills then one for each side? You should be equally safe.

Ditto, way to much to go wrong in the equation for me. Just remember to Stop drop and roll

I have the rod holders on each side as well and didn't like the thought of Q'n there, regardless of the fuel fill locations or not.

Todd,

You keep posting this photo and its making my mouth water.

There is a lot of snow on the ground and we are having a hard water problem, the water is frozen solid.

If you keep doing this I’m going to be forced to fly out to you and make you take us boating and fire up that grill. Oh, and I’d be bringing the admiral and a bunch of screaming kids too. LOL

(just having fun with you my friend)

NICE! That's just what I've been looking to find. I picked up a Garelick table mount last year, but was hesitant to drill the hole it required. That new mount looks like a better solution. Thanks for the link and pix!

Im surprised it hasnt come up that alot marina's do not permit BAR B Qing on boats. I know my marina does and a few State parks also ban it. Heck the parks even ban yea from doing it on the dock and picnic tables.
