This past Thursday night, we arranged to meet a group of people at a local restaurant on the lake.

So I drove 10 miles to our slip, spent an hour getting the boat ready, and returned home. Picked up my wife and another couple, and went back to the boat. We pulled out of the slip, and took a nice 45 minute cocktail cruise to the restaurant, where we enjoyed a nice meal. Another cocktail cruise back to the marina, docked the boat, covered it, and drove home. It was a great evening.

Of course, the other option would have been to just drive to the restaurant. It's only 2 miles from our house! But what fun would that be? To a non-boating person, I'm sure this would seem just plain nuts!

Nothing like a $100 cheeseburger! Life is all about the journey......sounds like a great time to me.

That is funny, I know the feeling. We do a similar thing on the lake we vacation at. Get up in the morning, get the boat all ready, take the 30 minute cruise, tie up at the docks, walk to the restaurant. All in all an hour endeavor to get there. Can be sitting in the restaurant in 7 minutes if we went by car.

We have non boating friends that visit us and they scratch there head at this.....

As i'm reading your post, line by line by line, slow, and easy, thinking OH,OH, what's ahead in this post? waiting to read about the other shoe dropping:smt009

And happily reading the end of a great evening for you and yours.makes us happy :thumbsup:

I would trailer my boat 10 miles to the marina(i dont have a slip yet). launch the boat and head back 3 miles to my wife's favorite resturant on the boat that we had passed driving to the marina. For some reason the service and food is always better when you tie up to there dock.

I will trailer mine for the last time the 16th of june,That story is the reason to put the boat on the water, what a great way to enjoy the evening or afternoon.I had reseverd a slip for the 4th,in another marina cancelled that and saved 80 bucks, now just going to drive 4 miles get in the boat and enjoy.I cant wait.

We have a restaurant that is a 5 minute walk from our slip and the Admiral wants to take the boat over and dock it outside the place so she can look at it while we eat! She thinks I am nuts about our boat?

it is all about the journey
love it

Do it all the time.

10 mile trip up to New Buffalo from Michigan City, get up there and enjoy a sunset cruise home.

20 miles, 20 gallons of diesel, love every minute.

We go to Put -in Bay and Kellys island on lake Erie to eat all th time 20 min boat ride food is great. Last year we took my wife sister and she said how much does it cost to pay for dock and food. I told her that if you worried about the cost you would't do it. Once the boats in the water if we want to go somewhere we are off. My next venture is there is a good rib joint at Cedar Point with free dock if you eat there. Its about 1/2 hr ride. We love every min of it.

We've enjoyed going to a place about 20 miles south of our home and having drinks in the slip, a nice dinner and then staying overnight and having breakfast on the boat in the morning before heading home.

Now that's a good Admiral you have there!

This is why we're different. I love going to dock and dine places and having the cocktail night cruises. If it's too close you, time permitting, you could find a good spot and drop off the hook to hang out for another hour or so.

Im jealous im surrounded by ponds. We've got a bar/grill on my lake but you have to beach the boat, waid through the water, hop the guard rail and cross the street to get to it.

We regularly go to this place right on the water that has about 12-16 slips for customers. The docks are right off the end of the regular outdoor seating area. We were there last friday night. Unfotunately, it's such a popular place no tables were free for at least the first 90 minutes we were there, and the tables are first come, first served. Folks were there for the band that was playing that night, so hardly anyone was leaving. The band is very popular. There were about 6-8 slips still open, with a public launch around the corner (literally about 500' away.) We decided next time we go, we'll put the boat in, and grab a slip and we won't have to worry about any seating issues.

I could hit our restaurant with a rock from our marina, granted I have a lot less to do to get the boat ready to go.....

Going out to dinner by boat is one of our favorite ways to use our boat. We ususally get out for an early dinner.....around 5PM and then try to time the ride home just as the sun is going down....easier to do mid season, as the days are longer. Full moon nights are the best!

It's "never" less expensive to go out to dinner by boat, but it's "always" more fun!

Once, for my birthday, we took 21 friends and neighbors, a case of wine, and went to a Japanese restaurant that has BYOB, about 4 miles by water, it would be 10 miles by land... It was actually cheaper than going by car... BTW this was on a '96 300 DA, and we exceeded the capacity, thankfully we did not get stopped by the marine police...

Hey Rod,

Was it in our area? I can't seam to find Japanese restaurant which I can get to by boat. I'm glad you didn't get stopped, I can only imagine how wild the party was. LOL.
