Pretty similar. I’ve been using those x tend a zipper and may not need them if I try using the frame as suggested.

When you "shorten" the rear legs... use your hands on the horizontal section of the rear bimini bow (in the vicinity of the rear leg) to get more leverage. Then do the same thing on/around the other rear leg. In other words, pull downward hard on one side, then the other. It'll help stretch the clear vinyl and make it (a little, anyways) easier to see through. But the main purpose is to make it easier putting the clears on.Pretty similar. I used to have the exact same body style as yours (Scott's is actually different)... it's strange as I don't recall having issues with removing the lower cover. I suppose if whoever put the second battery in put it way too close, then that could do it. BUT... I wouldn't want a battery that close to a fuel source. Technically, the codes say a battery can't be directly above or below a fuel source/line/fitting/filter so you're OK because it's "next to it". But that's still a little too close for comfort in my book. It would only take about 10 minutes to move the battery tray a bit further away.Got top off and called it a night. My second battery sits next to this filter and has to come out to allow lower cover to swing out and away. I’ll probably be keeping these cover pieces in my parts collection...
Come to think of it... I think both of mine where on the port side, too. That boat has been out of my stable for about 16 years now, though... so my memory might be a little fuzzy...I have 2 batteries on the port side . So access to mine is easy
No this top came off ok. Manual shows removal of both. It’s just clearance issue for bottom- jeez what a design. No wonder people tend never to put them back on.Keep in mind, the top cover doesnt come off or out, only the bottom slides down and out.
Sorry Dave I mis-spoke. Thinking about my 7.4 the clip was in the outside like the picture below and now I remember that the upper did come off. I should have checked the small block one to see if it was the same. sorry for the confusion but it seems like your missing something simple here, but you are there and we are notKeep in mind, the top cover doesnt come off or out, only the bottom slides down and out.
So got that baby off today by loosening the 2 bolts that hold the filter housing to a bracket; that gave some wiggle room to raise the whole filter assembly and the lower cover up and get it off in the direction the manual shows ( after removing the battery and tray). It cleared that ledge that is the problem tight spot. Filter itself comes off easy and clears everything with no issue. Just sharing if anyone else encounters this. No I’m not putting that cover back on. View attachment 151294
