Marine Society of City of NY had sponsored an inter-academy MONOMOY race this weekend. traditionally between Ft Schuyler and Kings Point, we extended it to include MASS Maritime , Maine Maritime and USCG academy cadets. just so happens that Ft Schuyler has brand new waterfront facilities , wave attenuating floating dock , new ramps / pedestals , the whole 9 yards. they offer transient dockage , so I figured I would take advantage being a graduate and marine society member taking part in running the event. arrived Friday night late due to unforeseen closure of spuytan duyvl rail bridge which is the entrance to the harlem river. coming down from Haverstraw ny, it would have been a nice shortcut , but I ended up having to go around the "horn " of manhatten. anyhow , was a great "homecoming" by boat and as always fantastic nautical backdrop. I would recommend staying for anybody passing through the sound on the way to points south , or for any mariner interested in exploring the great campus and one of the best maritime museums around. you can wander the museum in the fort after dark and take all the time you want.
