Four Suns might not like to see this...

I saw those pictures a few days ago. Looks like a 2003 or 2004 based on how the Sea Ray emblems are mounted.

I also noticed they left the Glomex antenna... HA!

I don't think I could watch that if it was my boat. I could hardly look at it and it's NOT my boat.

umm... yeah... let's see... What version of Cat engines where in the earlier 480 and what issues did they have? Something about the aftercoolers self destructing... I think there is some sort of class action law suit even going on.

I guess the excavators will be ok as the Cat engines don't need sea water cooling.

This has been floating around the internet for a few days. I am not buying it...I think it's a hoax, good photo editing.

First off why would you send 2 cranes to do the job 1 can do? Second, come on, this is unbelievable...you think the insurance company would allow this?. Tide comes up, boat goes out, on it's own or with a good tow....why crush it.

Photo 1, 2 dark lines close to the stern hanging down...photo 2, no lines....plus the canvas in gone in subsequent photos...come on, are you really going to take the canvas if they are going to crush your boat...probably not. Take a closer look at the series of photos..in some there are 'thing's' on the boat and in some there are not. From photo 1 to 2 all this stuff appears on the boat.....

I don't think it's a hoax. The story is documented on the forum we are not allowed to mention here with pictures from other people that were there. The guy apparently hit some coral trying to go into Devil's Backbone down in the bahamas (top of the Eleuthera Island chain). When I was researching going to that area, the protocol was to call in for a local pilot to come drive your boat in (or follow them) because it was so tricky and it costs like $75. The story was it was this guy's first time in and he didn't want to pay the $75.

Do a google on "devils backbone pilot bahamas" and you can see a few writings/videos on it.

Hmm... No precautions being taken in regards to fuel or oil spillage? No mess on the beach? No oil slick? What did they do with all of that fuel?

There are pictures, again, from people on another forum of them pumping the fuel out into barrels...

One of the Sea Ray delivery captains was in our area last week. This is a guy I've known for years and one that many of you have benefited from when he was in customer service. He asked if I had seen the photos of the beaching.....apparently the factory was asked about recovery and repair. As we discussed it, I learned that the coral cut the keel out of the boat over and area 2 ft wide by about 10 ft long. The owner didn't know what else to do so he powered toward the beach. The engines ran submerged in sea water and eventually ingested enough thru the intakes to hydrolock.

I am sure this is second or third hand information so who knows how true it is. However, adding the cost of 2 new QSM-11 Cummins, all wiring, and a generator to the cost of a delicate salvage job on a structurally compromised 40,000 boat with a huge crane and a large tug and barge in the Bahamas likely entered into the insurance company's decision to cut their losses and do a quick clean up.

Yeah, but he saved the $75 for a local pilot! ...and he gets to buy a new boat.

Wheres the debris ?? NOTHINGS floating in the water... Something has to be up....

Im kinda doubting it too... not that it washed up but how it was removed.

I a copy of the pics that went to searay ... there the same. I havent seen any pics of oil and fuel recovery.

Rob

And one (formerly) expensive boat has been removed from the marketplace, avoiding dilution of the value of those similar boats remaining afloat.

I'm with Rob and the others, first the canvas is up, then it's down, first there are black dock lines attached, then they're gone. First there's a radar array, and then it's gone. A boat that size being crushed into pieces and not a single piece of floating debris? Not sign of any oil containment precations? Even if they pumped out the fuel, how many gallons of engine oil are involved?

Doesn't seem right... I did try to find this on the other forum... any pointers to a topic title?

And why do I not see any tracks from the heavy equipment? I grew up around dozers, dump trucks, cranes and the like...last I recall those things were heavy and their tracks were left behind in the soil.
