Vacationing in northeast Maryland. Got on the Bohemia river just after 10 pm on Friday. Around 12:30 am I heard the VHF for a special weather alert about server thunderstorms coming up the shipping channel. We could see the lightening storm off to the south. It very common for storms to come up the channel like that. And a lot of boats take refuge in the Bohemia cause its pretty protected. Well before u knew it the storm was right on top of us. The boat was being tossed around like it was a piece of paper. I had 5 foot waves crashing over the bow and stern. It seemed like the wind was constantly changing direction. The rear camper section got shredded. Likely the 26 year old 268 held together. Found out the next morning the winds we clocked at 80 mph

Yeah it was scary. The waves were so intense that they opened the bow locker hatch and water came pouring into the vberth. We emptied atleast 100 gallons of water out of the vberth when it finally calmed down. Had water in the mid berth as well. People thought I was nuts installing a 2000 gph bilge pump in there well I'm glad I did.

storms are serious stuff
I was out last year and lightning struck the bank about 100yds behind the boat and started a small rockslide into the lake
didn't take me long to get the antennas down...or to finish peeing
glad you guys are ok.

Glad you were safe and the boat kept you protected. I was on my 300DA at that same time during that same storm in northern Virginia. Fortunately I was tied down in my slip. My wife gets a gold star for helping me snap on the cockpit cover with the driving rain and wind trying to carry the cover and us away. We got it down and kept the cabin/cockpit dry during the meat of the storm.

Glad everyone is safe! We were also in it, tied up in our slip! The wind and lightning was wicked!! Thank goodness we were spared any damage to the boat...however...

Lost power at the house 70 miles off shore for about 40 hours. Lost all of the food in the fridge and freezer because we weren't here to get the generator hooked up!

It just hit at the right time with it being low tide it amplified the waves. We were anchored in 8 feet of water. I originally had 60 feet of anchor line out when I saw what was coming on the radar I quickly left out another 70 feet of line. Even with 130 feet of line almost capsized a few times. I have a Danforth anchor and the more the boat was pulling the more it felt like it was digging in. I'm also glad I was using 5/8 anchor line.

I think I would have started...

Glad you guys are all okay! What an experience, no doubt one you could all have done without! Stay safe out there:)

Water was all in the compartments under the vberth cushions I bet I emptied 200 gallons of water from the vberth and midberth

Glad your ok, lots of folks around us still don't have power and won't for many days to come. I was in the slip, but couldn't get the covers on. Thank you Sea Ray for the hard top. Had a hell of a time getting home, trees down everywhere. Then a tornado the very next night.....enough already!

We were at our marina on the Bohemia also during the storm. Lots of damage to the surrounding area, power outages, huge trees toppled and smaller ones snapped off. We had three sailboats on moorings that sunk and a dinghy rack that blew about 40' across the beach. Luckily we were under the shed but it was still unreal.

At Sasafrass Harbor in Georgrtown MD. Unbelievable. I was in the cockpit (camper) watching the storm come down the river. The wind and rain was so violent I went into the cabin fearfully the canvas would tear away...fortunately no damage. A few boats on my dock were not as lucky. Lost power...ran the gen to keep cool, the turned it off before going to bed. Someone said the wind gust were around 80 mph.

The only thing that sucks about our weekender is I can't operate the boat during storms or heavy rain do to the open cockpit. We really like the boat and I have way too much in it to sell it. I'm seriously looking into making a light weight hardtop for it
