mrsrobinson said:Agreed, and so far the time\hours is covered under the engine warranty.
They plan to install a new head gasket on the #5 cylinder side and then perform the same tests.
mrsrobinson said:UPDATE:
Port head pulled yesterday. The head had "clean" valves on the #5 cylinder, the piston looked good but there was some anti-freeze in the exhaust ports of the manifold. The head gasket did not have any signs of leakage. This leaves two possibilities per the mechanic. First of all, there could be a crack in the the valve seat of the head or there could be a defect in the manifold itself. Mechanic is taking those two items to a machine shop to have them pressure tested to determine which of the two is defective.

Shop just called, they completed the repairs yesterday. The exhaust manifold and head passed pressure testing at the machine shop. He said the head bolts did not appear to have the required sealant on them so they took care of this while reinstalling the head with a new head gasket. He said it's possible this could have come off during the removal of the head.
He said the old head gasket looked OK to the naked eye but it's not unusual for them to seperate or have a crack not visible to the naked eye. The engine ran strong and passed the same cooling system exhaust gas test it previously failed. They want us to put her up on the plane this weekend and run her hard for a while to see if there is still a leak. All of their tests were done in the slip.
