Express vs Sedan Bridge

Hey Carver,
Put me down for one of those $100 hand jobs- long as she's cute, and it's for a good cause and all...

I can always tell when the cold weather sets in for you guys. Things get a lot more entertaining around here. Talking about boats is so...boring.

You would be happy to know that they were actually only a dollar! I just saved you $99, does she have to be cute now that its only a dollar?

I acutally won first place in our boat parade with that theme.

Now this is really giving me a complex. That Searay retrospective publication put out by BOAT/US said my boat had "awkward styling." Now I'm being hit with "not sporty." Well, even though I'm the oldest and smallest in the gang, I feel I can speak for all SR bridge boat-owners when I say that DBs stand the test of time when it comes to styling. AND how many of you sub-370 dancer owners can boast two floor living, two staterooms (with doors, not curtains) and a separate stall shower!? Hmmmm? Anyone, anyone

Please pardon the raked back antennae. This pic was taken when I first got the boat and well before I knew Gary. Come to think of it, this wasn't even a digital. I think I scanned it in!

Thanx kpet. Flattery will get you everywhere!

Ron-
I like the "daymarker-on-a-stick" in your picture. That's so New Jersey. Metedeconk River perhaps?

Good call Tim! Yeah, if the Flintstones had channel markers, this is what they'd look like. It's like a bamboo shoot with a cheap a$$ wooden shape (red triangle or green square) made by a kindergartener stuck on top, and a bicycle reflector in the center! This is why my property taxes are the highest in the land. And you thought your bay was tricky! At least that marker had the dopey triangle still attached. I'd say about 1/3 of the shapes are knocked off by July 4 and maybe 1/5 of the sticks are knocked out or over by then also.

Jaws, I would sure like to see some pictures of your camper canvas set up. Even if you have to PM me and obtain an email address.

Thanks

PM has been sent regarding the Camper back. Very happy with it and it has literally doubled our living space.

......Hmmmm? Anyone, anyone....

So Ron....You forgot to talk about your blazing speed that these DB's are legendary for......HMMMMM!!!!!!

I really want a bridge boat......waaaahh!!!!!

Good call. Take five & reconsider. I think that my Boat has classic lines that are timeless. But then, I'm biased. I am 63 and stairs + ladders are not desirable now nor in my immediate future. "I'm going to shut up now because it really is all about preference and usage....now that iv'e put my foot in it!!!"

How come I understand being in your 60's. I have a bridge boat and always find myself driving from the lower station. Not sure if it's because i'm old, or that's where the bar is located. Only drive from the bridge when wave hights are 2 inches or less.

OK... Wait a second Dom... I am young, have a Sedan Bridge and it has blazing speeds! Am I missing something?

I lay NO claim to speed! BUT my speed is about the same of a similarly powered mid-late 90s 370 or 380DA. This baby tops out at 31mph (how many knots is that) and Frank H can attest to it! Now IF I had a pair of these babies in there, you'd be eating my salt spray as I burn a cool 24GPH. But alas, I don't...:smt089

Blazing speeds, eh?

Here's a picture of my friend's very sexy looking express cruiser. Regal 5260 with IPS. We travel together all the time. Everyone stops and oogles over his boat while mine is simply the backdrop...

Very sleek. Looks very fast.

Here's a shot of him continuing to try to keep up.

2NNL.jpg

Here's a shot of him slipping behind.

3NNL.jpg

He is "balls to the wall at this point"...full throttle.

Here's a shot of him finally giving up and turning in.

If this wasn't such a respectable site, I'd zoom in to show him giving me the finger.

Here's a shot as he contends with my wake.

And here's a shot of him and another sexy 5260 as the second guy turns into my wake...kinda like a dog rolling over to show pack order

This drives my friend absolutely crazy....so being the good guy I am, I blow by him every chance I get :smt038

Too bad about the "blazing speed my DB is legendary for". I peak out at 36MPH and typically cruise at 32MPH, which I can do all day (til the tanks run dry) in conditions that would pound many an express cruiser.

This is our fifth boat. The Jackie J's one through four were all express cruisers. Loved the boats. Hated bridge boats. Thought I'd be significantly sacrificing performance moving to the JJ V, but needed the space (2 screaming kids, 2 dogs, one angry wife...:smt043). I was surprised as hell to find that this boat significantly outperformed the JJ IV in time to plane, turning circle, general handling and top speed.

Also, someone mentioned the down side of being up high in rough seas. I have found it to be very stable up top. In my case, the potential downside of being further from the water (pendulum effect) is more than compensated by the heavy iron sitting pretty much dead centre in the basement.

Oh yeah, and here's a shot of the outdoor space we gave up...

I don't see anything sexy or even pretty about that Regal...Looks like a pterodactyl !!

:smt043

I'll make sure I pass that on to my buddy. That'll get his goat too...

Nice work, Jackie J V. Your "Bridge Boat Snob Club" card is in the mail.

Funny thing with the DBs... the bigger they are, the faster they tend to be. The 40/42/44 is faster than the 36, but is not as fast as the 48/50/52, which is not as fast as the 56/58.

Go figure.

Paul,

Nice shots! Severn Sound and Tobermorey? I miss those cruising grounds.

How is the fuel burn on your CAT equipped 560DB? I only know the MAN versions in our marina.

Our dock mate has a new 55DA with MANs and that boat is fast! I think faster than those Regals.

:smt043

I'm getting lot's of chuckles this morning.

Festivus, you can keep the card, however I would like a "BBSC" logo next to my avatar (like the CSR Sponsor logo maybe...).

Jaws, you pinned it. The 5260 shots are heading into Penetang Harbour and that last shot is cocktail hour in downtown Tobermorey. Great cruising grounds.

I bet the 55DA with MANs is probably faster than the 5260. The Regal is underpowered and could use more Umpf. I think a number of manufacturers undersized the engines when they integrated Volvo IPS engine and are now regretting their decisions.

As for fuel burn (here's time for An Inconvenient Truth :smt021). I burn about 60 to 65 GPH at cruise, 80 GPH at full throttle...

That's still more efficient (if you can call it that) than the MANs. You've got a great boat! Might run into you at the Toronto Boat Show this winter.
