I may have a solution.
I have a SeaRay 185 with the same problem as everyone else.
I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I went with a white bedliner to coat the entire engine cover.

I then used an automotive body filler (bondo) to fill in and smooth everything over.

I wiped the cover down with automotive wax and grease remover prior to applying an adhesion promoter which allows for bonding the bedliner to the plastic.
I used a bedliner from Monstaliner. Cost was about $175.00 for a gallon kit. Two quarts would have been enough. Great support and user-friendly. Many many good reviews and testimonials on their Facebook page along with very timely support answers.
3 coats total. It leaves a bumpy finish but is soooo much better than the cracked version. This liner is tintable with automotive grade paint tints. The white is whiter than the gelcoat on the boat so with a little preparation it could be tinted to match.
Final result looks pretty good. Time will tell how well this works but I feel confident that it is a permanent solution.
