Ebay listing

I don't think I could afford the price to simply do an oil change on those monsters!

Very cool! Thanks for posting the eBay listing. Outside my price range, to own or maintain, but I can appreciate the concept. Looks like they did a really nice job.

Just pull those motors and squeeze them in my boat and I would have one fast 410! A bit much though...

Nice. I'll check my numbers when I get home to see if I can suddenly afford it. Yea, right:smt089

I wonder if rusty had a hand on that one?

The interior looks like a bit dated, but those engines sure look nice. I hate to admit it, but I never knew RR even built diesels. Figured their cars had gas, and then then gas turbines for their jet engines. Interesting.

The 460EC is a big old heavy boat, beamy and lots of room, but also slow. Most had 3208 Caterpillars but a few had 6V92 Detroits. Any way you cut it, the eBay asking price is about 3X what decent 460EC's sell for…..that is a pile of scratch for a few RR stickers and a pair of engines you aren't going to find parts or mechanics for in this hemisphere if you need help……

I wonder about that story. HIN = SERF9489B889.(from Vessel Documentation website). So it was built in Merritt Island - no number 2 in that HIN. Rusty was laying fiberglass down there during that time period. Wonder if he could confirm ??

Were those two Paul Cezanne originals on the wall?

Love the Rolls Royce sticker slapped on the breaker panel.

Spirit of GAUDY might be a better name.

Who wrote that dopey description?? "It features a rich Superyacht interior." LOL!

Hull # indicates the boat was built in February, 1988 for the 1989 model year, so it fits that this would be a PD&E boat. I think "hull #2" has reference to the internal SR production number and not the HIN #.

What doesn't fit is that 1989 was the last year for the 460EC. By February, SR Management would have known the 460EC was being dropped in favor of the newer styling on the 500DA, so unless the 460EC here was just being used as a test platform for the Rolls Royce engines, I don't know why this 460EC was even built by PD&E. Since the RR engines were never used in a production Sea Ray, this would be a one of a kind……..but, I don't know who would find any collector value in a 25 year old 46ft. cruiser.

My thoughts exactly Frank. Cool or not it's still a 25 year-old boat that needs the rich super-yacht interior upgraded. I all I saw of the pics of the engines was another really tight Sea Ray engine room.

I think my retirement cache is safe.

They've made it an ugly boat with terrible stripes, too many RR stickers, and bad art inside. If it looked original, it would be a million times better. I don't swear by the Rolls engines as much as they do.

I was just thinking about this... Wouldn't that mean that some of our boats could be considered "highly collectable, twin engine, floating Corvettes". After all GM produced the 7.4ls for marine use first then adapted them to be used in the Vette.

That boat was built at the Palm Coast Plant. It was built as a power blank and the Plant engineering team did the stringer mods and engine installation. I spent a few months on that project. The engines were imported by Perkins and were being tested for use in the larger yachts being designed for the Sykes Creek plant. One thing I do remember was we were limited by the size of the prop tunnels. The biggest wheel we were able to fit was a 32 x 32 4 blade and it wasn't enough.

INTERESTING INPUT !!
did you see the project to the final product ??
