East Coast Bow Thrusters

HAHAHA that's why I love this forum, every one of you guys are all cool and real people. I knew it was mis-read / taken. Heck I do that all time sitting in front of the fireplace with 1/4 scotch too deep lol

You've heard about people who know nothing? Well I don't even suspect anything. What is a joy stick anyways? I could tell you what it means to me, but somebody would probably press the little black triangle and I would get thrusted out of here in a hurry.

I want to thank everyone for their opinions and insight into this matter. When he originally asked me I knew by posting it I would get a answer that was truthful and professional regarding the company that he was looking to use.
No matter what the reason for the bow thruster it's not the size of the mans boat but the motion of the ocean. Lets all have a nice cold drink tonight and hope spring comes fast.

Spring is here. Oh. Wait, I'm in Phoenix. Sorry.

Carry on, nothing more to see here except some dried egg on some schmuck's face.

LMAO!! Hysterical hahaha

Hey Club Searay
I'm the clown who apparently needs a new hobby..... Yes, a bow thruster on a 270 Amberjack is slightly unnecessary, but so are many things in the boating world like $1000 fishing reels and mixers in quality vodka.

I asked my circle of friends if they have heard of East Coast Bow Thrusters and I got similar responses. One in particular fell into the trap, and started banging on his chest "I've been boating for years.......", "what do you need that for...", "get boating lessons...", "more wheel time.....". Thankfully, most offered advice like, warranty, make of unit, and size of motor.

We are all guilty of thinking we are helping our fellow boaters, we all should step back and think about the question before offering advice.

I'll let you all know how East Coast Bow Thrusters did after the job is done, so far Joe has been great to deal with.

Thanks
Bbnardo

Hey Bbnardo you haven't lived until you see a 12" hole saw that's 3 ft long drilling into your hull. Take pics

I remember it well! It's pretty scary!

Brian now that you came out of the closet as the man needing a bow thruster I can officially welcome you to Club Searay.
Yes please post Pics. It's always easier watching someone else drill holes in their boat. Good luck tomorrow.

FYI: my boat has both bow and stern thrusters even though she doesn't really need them she's heavy with big props but I use them every time to walk sideways off the fuel dock or make minor adjustments in/out of a slip you won't regret it. Nice reassurance to have.

Just curious what the price of a bow thruster is? I have been considering one. It doesn't take much for the wind to grab me.

I put one in my boat early last year. I always managed my boat "well" for the first 12 seasons. Now with the thruster, its too easy, and much less stress in tight quarters. My install was 12k ish (from memory here) all in, with some sweat equity on my part.

It does depend on the size of your boat and perhaps where you are located too. For our size it was $8,125 fully installed and it is worth every penny. Now we don't mind going out if it's a bit windier than normal or docking in tight quarters quite so much. Plus it will make the boat easier to sell when the time comes:) You won't regret it if you go ahead but you will think, "why the heck didn't I have it done before":) Good luck!

Ours was $7000 but we went one size larger as we were on the line of which one fit best capacity wise.

Agreed, I think location does play a role in pricing. I contacted Florida Bow Thrusters, they have a mobile operation throughout the country. Their quote was over 17K, not including yard fees. My wife was not thrilled with the cost originally but now has repeatedly voiced a similar statement to your thoughts.

Nice!!!!!!
