Dock Neighbor - Doesn't like to Follow the Rules

Not necessarily about the grill causing your monitor to go off! If your running the engine in the slip and maybe there is a breeze that you don't notice, the monitor will go off if it's working properly. I agree with you that people near you have no sense when it comes to the marina rules. What's the matter with your management? You know, they know where they are. Don't you have security present. I do, one call and they are there.

You guys are far too reasonable. Work up a good strong panicked look. Get all bug-eyed and yell something like, "Oh my God! That boat's on fire! The whole marina is going to burn!" Then grab a fire extinguisher and hose everything down with dry chemical while yelling "Fire! Fire!" Take 15 minutes to calm down after the fire is out. The crazier you look and act, the better. No one is going to argue with the certifiable nut case on the dock.

just a suggestion...

Best regards,
Frank

Some marinas allow the small propane grills... some don't....

Does anyone have any data where one of those small propane canisters and a grill caused a fire? Ever? Even off the dock?

I'm pretty safety conscious but the gas grill thing has never really bothered me... Then again, I leave my generator running when I fill the boat up with fuel.

I know that this does not necessarily apply to your State but, here in Ontario, insurance regulations do not allow for grilling on your boat while docked at the marina. There is some official wording posted in the gazebo nearest our slip that goes on at length about this and fueling issues (filling your tanks not at the gas dock). I do remember something about full liability being borne by the offender of this regulation to all damage caused to other boats & the marina property. In other words, your insurance will not pay for incidents caused by grilling on your boat while tied up at the marina.

So - would a cool mod - be removing the bow hatch and drop in a Weber charcoal grill?

If they bother you that bad, take a picture of them doing whatever offends you, drop the pic on your dock managers desk (don't say or tell anything) and watch what happens. If the management cares they'll take care of it, or not. Keep dropping pics untill management does something or tells you to stop taking pictures.

I might just have to do that. just let the grease drop into the cabin. When it fills, use the step down pump to remove.!

I saw a family of 4 fishing slip to slip last weekend. I was quite mad as a hook could get caught in a boatlift airline hose and pierce it causing my biggest fear of lift failure. I wanted to approach the father but he had the children with him and I feared some sort of confronation that did not need to occur in front of children.

It's not that *your* insurance won't pay. . .it's that the *marina* insurance won't pay. Then after all the boat owners will collect against their insurance, those individual insurers won't be able to come after the marina's insurance. They will then try to collect against *your* liability coverage.

So the question becomes: How high is your liability coverage? (Note that you don't have to have enough coverage all the losses. . it just has to be high enough to make the insurance company use the *really good lawyers*).

If your insurance isn't enough. . then there is always your house. Unless, of course, you are upside down on both your house and your boat. . in which case they probably won't bother coming after you.

You could sneak over in the darkness of night and very quietly remove all the propane bottles from his boat. Then take a little super glue and put a dab on the propane jet...

Just a thought, not that I would advocate anything illegal..

I may have just found my boat name: "Sailboat Bitch Lady"!

Mmmmm wonder how many sails would be offended??????

I know you are not serious but if the gas was unable to escape the jet it might find another way out. As soon as you tried to light it..............BOOM. You're prank would literlly backfire.

Take the photo of the folks using the propane grill on the dock and send it to the marina's insurance company. Note the day, the slip number, even better get the boat's name in the photo. The insurance company would take note.

Who me serious??

I was thinking of the little valve that holds the green bottle. If you put super glue on the bottle side of the valve, no gas is going to be coming out of the bottle. Now understand this is only a theory and in no way should be tried outside of the laboratory.................:wow:

Isn't that flirting with infraction?

Another one! Holy infraction city!

I don't know, Ron. Well, at least we know you're not the guy who makes all those photoshop fakes. You should have at least had your daughter cut out the pictures and do the paste-up.

If you look closely, in this photo, shot seconds after the fire broke out, you can see who was responsible for the incendiary event. It was Frank in his gasoline powered Amphibious Hover-craft! Note how he admires his handiwork!
