Do you leave your batteries in over the winter?

At my indoor rack storage, the rack storage agreement states that you must pull your batteries for the winter. I think it must be a liability issue. Just think if the boat above you had an issue and affected your boat below.....

Our indoor rack storage prefers you disconnect the neg battery cable not for liability they don't want to hear all the co detectors going off all winter long. If we call them they'll pull the boat out and top them off before charging the batteries for us their bored during winter months. This year we plan on going out at least a couple times a month weather permitting to charge the batteries and have some fun if we can't rough it in a little rain and wind with heat, stove, microwave and TV maybe we should find something else to spend our money on.

I have always taken my batteries out and stored them in the basement on a piece of wood. I'd top off the charge periodically.

Last year, I got too busy and could not get to the boat. I left them in. The dealer disconnected the negative cables. Only difficulty was taking the charger in the spring to charge them up and finding out I had to replace one of them.

So I've been lugging batteries around each season for the last bazillion years for no good reason!
They are SOOOOO staying in the boat this winter!!

This discussion probably just saved my back - I was getting to old for that crap anyway.

I pull my battery on my 190... and leave my batteries on my 340... The 340 I leave plugged in all winter...

We have an almost year round season here and being only 30 minutes away I can check on my boat anytime. I have always left my "triplets" hooked up and charging 24/7 and even turn on the bilge heater so they'll be comfy/cozy . . .

I just put in a pair of DieHard PM1 batteries in my 'house' bank. No way in hell I'm lugging those suckers home until they are dead dead dead.

They will stay in the boat this offseason - fully charged at end of season and then disconnected. I rack store, so I don't have shore power available.

My batteries are put into heated storage fully charged with negative lead disconnected. The engine room lift is closed with a battery connected to the 12v plug on the dash. I replaced the batteries after 5 1/2 years and they were still good.

Anyone have a link or a picture of this? My hatch is very heavy and it's a two person job getting it held up to get the piston re-bolted.

I found an old link with a picture http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/25910-removing-batteries-and-closing-engine-hatch
