Do you fiddle with your ......umm..

Damn, I'll bet she'll get the boat in the divorce settlement.

I think they also check to see if I am on my 10th cocktail like all big boaters are...

C'mon now, Gary. I think it was only nine cocktails. Sheesh. Leave it to a topic about sea cock size to lead to exaggerated figures.

BTW - What was the size of the formerly-gorgeous boat in the "Ouch!!!" thread?

(You'll notice that I managed to squeeze both an abbreviation and emoticon in there.)

PS - It's Friday. I hope you all have a sense of humor today!

Well, I went to boat yesterday afternoon all alone and changed out my racors, engine zincs, cleaned the strainers, and had 9 cocktails (well... 3 of those are true). Since I was there I thought I would hang out in the engine room and exercise my seacocks. I just held on to them real hard and did as you instructed. I don't get it... all I did was work up a sweat and then came home and needed to take a nap... Is this just some sort of "big boater sport" I didn't know about?

How do I excercise my sea cock?

By exercise I mean to close and re-open them to insure they are not stuck. On another board, THT, they were discussing that you need to exercise, meaning close an open them, or in time they may not close when you need them to.

I leave mine open all the time, so I do close and open them at least once a month to make sure the ball valve does not get stuck. Plus every time you clean your strainers you also have to close the sea valve (avoiding any DM thoughts here  ), but I only have to take out my strainers once a year ... we hardly get anything in them.

Ok, in response to original question I close all thru-hulls when the boat is left unattened. I usually get to the boat at least once a month so fouling is not a problem. Also I'm in fresh water and :smt101 I think that helps.

This sounds like a mid-winter just got back from the boat show post-football season man we are bored thread. Gentlemen, it is the peak of boating season, and we ought to all be out burning fuel and tossing big wakes (legally, of course) at ragboters....but here goes.
Seriously, I leave my seacocks open during boating season unless I am cleaning strainers. I close them when the boat gets winterized. My waste discharge seacock is tie wrapped in the clsoed position and only gets exercised annually at winterization. My seacocks get closed, then opened, a couple times a month during the season because of the need to check/clean strainers.
The 2" valves on my mains are tight, but I can open/close by hand without a mallet or other type of universal pressure wrench.
