Debris In the Bay from Irene and Lee

Does the Dam still generate power?....Mike.

A friend of mine was heading out of Rock creek thie morning not a ripple on the water and then BAM he hit something hard. He said nothing was apparently damaged and he said nothing was visible in the water when he hit it. A perfect weekend to cruise and who wants to idle?

All the wood stuff is waterlogged and floating 4-6" under the surface. Arrrrrgh! I'm ready to start next season.

Man tell me about it after last weekend! Thanks for the replies to the thread. I want to run this weekend if I do I'll stay close. Not really looking to add to the winterizing bill this year.

I'm going to take her out a few more times, but I think I'm going to stay on the back side of Hart Miller at cocktail speed.

Last thing I need this year is fiberglass repair.

Hey ~ Thanks for the input. I spent enough this summer thanks to MM and the inflated costs, I don't need a hull job on top of a new engine. Cocktail speed it is.

Took the boat out for a beautiful ride on Sunday. Down the Bush River, up on plane and the ride was awesome. At the green buoy (#3) we took a nice 90 degree turn towards the channel. For a long way prior to the channel nothing. We did find some pockets of wood and debris. Slowed down through there and navigated around them. Yes we did see some big pieces of debris in the channel. I saw one that was clearing longer than my boat and was at least three feet or more out of the water. As we went up the bay headed to the Sassafras River we encountered some more debris, sticks some logs and some tires or two. The ride of the Sass was great. Lunch at the Kitty Night House the over to the Granary for another drink (JD with Honey) then back down the Sass to the channel. Overall the day was awesome. The bay still has some pockets of clutter but if you take your time you can avoid almost all of it.
So there's the update.....

Interesting report.

I took the boat out last Friday afternoon. I stayed behind Hart Miller the whole time. There was a 4'x6" log between my boat and the dock when I arrived at the marina. I pulled it out. 20 minutes later, I pulled out several small pieces of lumber, and what looked like a wheelbarrow tire. Not a good start to the afternoon. I pulled out of the marina and headed north through the cut. Lumber, logs, stucks, large chunks of thick grass everywhere. I exited the cut and brought her up on plane headed towards Middle River. There were some smaller sticks and branches, but it wasn't too bad. I started heading up Middle River and there was a lot more of it. I couldn't maintain a straight line for more than 10 seconds at a time. I ended up turning back towards Hart Miller. We ended up dropping the hook and watching most of the sunset. We cruised back at cocktail speed before it got dark. A friend at the marina indicated that conditions were similar on the other side of HMI.

I'd say this season is officially dead.

Well... For what its worth. The Bay was very nice today. Ran to Middle River and back and didn't see so much as a stick. No more debris. The marina closes for the season tomorrow. :smt013
