CSR Rules

I just added to Frank's rep. . .he is an invaluable resource.

I now need to find a post from Playdate.

- - - - - - - -

I also was wondering about the guy Frank is refering too. I suspect it will only take one or two bad eggs to mess up this system. But I am willing to give it a fair go.

I supported the rules so the mods had something to fallback on to support their actions but I am completely against this color "rating" icon. That will turn out to be a "popularity contest" rather than anything usefull especially since it's not even clear how to "vote" for someone (Yeah I know its that crazy icon in the upper right. But how many others know it's there or even know what that little color box is for?)................just my 2 cents.

Thanks guys........but I'm not asking for votes. I just don't understand how the system works yet. It is my hope that it doesn't become a popularity contest and that members will use it to rate the validity of posts so we do get a measure of trust in their author.

I have a habit of telling it like it is and sometimes that doesn't make people happy, so we'll just have to let the system do its thing and see what hapens.

Dave S - I personally disagree and will tell you I was not a fan of the ranking button at first, but if it is used correctly which I think it will be; it will be great.

Give you an example, I gave you a thumbs up the other day when you helped someone figure out it was the IAC that needed to replaced. You read the post and gave the guy the nail on the head answer. Could he have figured it out by taking it to the shop and having someone check it out, sure. But by your posting he was able to have knowledge prior to taking it to the shop or trying to figure it out on his own.

Give it time it will work if we use it right. Remember that it does not go back to the old SRO days or the begining of CSR. It started yesterday it is all computer generated and it is very possible that someone comes in tomorrow and give great information and is moved ahead of one of our long-term members. That is ok if you provide information that people are happy with they will vote. On the negative if someone gives advise that you should raise your drive on a inboard boat when in shallow water they will probably get a negative post on that one post (and it serves as a warning that people need to be cautious when listening to that person). Does it mean that that person is always wrong, of course not.

It is alot like an ebay rating, just because someone has a low rating does not mean that person is not selling great stuff it just means you should be careful.

Give it a couple of months before you throw away the idea of using it, try it. If it does not work and the agreement is it is not worth it we can always remove it. For the longest time we have been going around saying it is not the number of post but the information that counts, this will help make it where that person that has 300 post but only gets involved when he knows the answer and/or has something valid to say be as important as that person who has 6000 post and only 2% of them have substance.

For those who have not read it go read who moved my cheese.

But still unknown quality at this point, it will take a little more than a day for the computer to figure out how great Frank is even though we all see it each and ever day.

Wes,

I'm familiar with this type of rating system, yet I can not find the comments left, etc. If I look in 'User CP' where will the messages be displayed? I see nothing??

Doug

Do you see a space for comments on the right of the topic. Can you do a screen print of what you see as I know what I see but on some of this mine looks different as a moderator. On mine there is only one that someone left a comment on, the others the person just approved or diapproved :)smt021) my message. That is why I think it helps to leave a comment.

i'm looking at my rating's thingy. I can't make sense of it. first, it doesn't show all of them. second, I'm following the dates, i'm grey, grey, then green, then grey again but with a positive comment, then grey again. You can't tell if it's a positive rating or a negative rating. So how do you find out if it's positive or negative? and does it only show the last few?

I think the color that you are seeing is the color of the person giving you the comment. I think Jim will need to turn on the approve or disapprove thing so we can see it, if you do not see comments it is probably because the person did not leave any. Do you have a screen print so I can see what you see?

I agree with DaveS - People who use the internet (especially message boards) as a source for important (to them) information should use their own judgement as to the validity of the information given. I personally think creating new 'classes' of board users is a step in the wrong direction - JMHO.

it won't allow me to copy them. But it says I have 8 points but only show's 5 ratings.

New classes? Popularity contest? Where are the comments? Holy crap batman, I never imagined this could be so difficult. Its a little green, gray, or red DOT near your name. Most people will be green. This is not a system that has been in development for the last 3 years to revolutionize CSR. Its just a little button! If you want a popularity contest or tiered member thing just look at the post count. That pretty much applies levels or seniority to members. So anybody looking for a popularity contest can bask in the glow of their post count.

You could be the most unpopular, unsocial moron but if you are giving good info routinely then you should still see a green dot by that name. It is completely unrelated to popularity or tiers. I think I am going to be in tears hearing the repeated complaining "you suck, your site sucks, you need to integrate some kind of rating system for users".... "you suck, your new rating system sucks".... I would at least like to suck consistently for one thing, but to suck for doing what I am asked is a little frustrating.

I noticed that you have a black dot.

Not only do you suck Jim(actually I didnt know you sucked that much), but it says you have "disabled reputation" !!

Did you get that in the war? Bad Mishap with a hair curler back in the 70's? Inquiring minds want to know!

Members are actually requesting this? For what purpose? Someone is actually going to follow anothers advice based on the color of a dot near their name?

Wesley

WHat about 597 posts and only 1%?

Where do people like me fit in? :smt089

I did tell someone that a boat is to be driven in WATER, helpful information I think.
