CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

Alex, I would go anywhere, no preference. Ric

Great. Thanks Ric. That's puts you a long with few other folks who said that they'll just follow the flotilla. I'm putting your vote for Mystic.

Choosing_Port2.jpg

I think we've reached the conclusion that Mystic is the official port #2 for the flotilla. Thus, our itinerary as follows:

Itinerary.jpg

We're now on the quest to find the best marina for our needs. Currently our list of candidates is:

1. Seaport Marine
2. Mystic Shipyard West
3. Mystic River Marina
4. Mystic Seaport Marina
5. Brewer Yacht Yard at Mystic

For those who's keeping track, we're currently at possibly 30 boats and counting...

Looks like you have the votes for Mystic.....As far as Montauk is concerned - we will probably stay at star island - they still have a pool - their docks are concrete floating (instead of fixed piers) - and they are a bit cheaper per foot (with a 30' min)

For my crew, Montauk just makes sense because Mystic will be our home port, and we have never been to Montauk before....
..

Mike
I have only done Montauk once myself but stayed at MYC which is why my crew is looking forward to this port. I am open to Star Island but Russ C said he thought that they had limited transient docking. Do you have any more info on that?

Since we're pretty much settled with the official port #2............. .

How do you figure that? I still see lots of empty slots on your spreadsheet. C'mon Alex, let's keep this vote friendly and fair! LOL :smt043 :smt043:smt043

It's now clearly became a race between the Mystic and Montauk (MYC), so to simplify the picture I've removed other ports.

Oh, that makes sense, b/c I got confused for a minute. Seaport Marine could be one of our prime candidates. Here's the info Ross have gathered so far:

Transient Rate $2.50 pf for 1st night + $10 30amp or $20 50amp, 2nd night $2.25 p/f. They have floating concrete docks, a clubhouse which will be available for us, in case we want to do a BBQ and dine right there. There's no anchorage. They'll have brand new restaurant on site. Located within walking or short dinghy ride distance to Seaport and Mystic downtown.
Be careful - if your talking about seaport marine (the on in town with the new restaurant, etc) there is no clubhouse or pool and the marina is really spread out - only the "new section" has concrete floating docks and most are occupied by seasonal boats (russ used to be there) the rest of the docks line the chanell and are quite rickety....make sure you know what your getting

Hey Alex,

Ric said he "would go anywhere", Not "Anywhere in Mystic!"!! You're killing me here! LMAO

I don't, but I'll start looking into it - MYC is fine with me if it looks like it will be the best for "our" group....

Undecided = Mystic LOL

Ah....Todd, you always have to make me work hard.........

Here's a simple math and my logical view on this:

Choosing_Port2.jpg

We have 13 votes for Mystic
We have 5 votes for Montauk
We have 4 empty cells from List of participants. Ron said that he's voting against Montauk, so that clearly leaves you with potentially 3 votes for. At best case for Montauk it would be 8 votes.
We have 4 empty cells in the list of maybies. In all fairness, I don't think the rest of the flotilla should wait for their votes, especially if they're not 100% sure that they're coming. But, even you those 4 votes would go for Montauk it'll make total 12 votes.

13 still beats 12, so there you have it. However, I'm focusing on the votes from the list of participants, so the conclusion was simply drawn.

Just come with the rest of the flotilla and have more fun. Tell your friends who steer you away from the flotilla to follow you, not the other way around.

What if i changed to Star Island? could theoretically be a tie then?
???

Mike, so which would you recommend from these choices?

1. Seaport Marine
2. Mystic Shipyard West
3. Mystic River Marina
4. Mystic Seaport Marina

#1 would be closest to town, but as I mentioned before you would want to be in the "new " section - it is unlikely they could accomodate the number of boats you are talking about and there is no anchorage or mooring field close by - this one is just through the train bridge.

#2 Is my home port and not a bad chioce - Its before the bridges, has really nice grounds/pool, the docks are fixed - the walk to town is not bad and Mystic Market is at the top of the hill (they could cater an informal meal) as is grossmans seafood (a fish market) Again, I don,t know that they would have enough slips, but their are moorings close by

#3 I wouldn't consider it over your other choices

#4 I like this Idea a lot - plenty of room at the seaport if you book EARLY, I saw 17 nordhavns in there for a rendezvous last year and there was still a bunch of room - that combined with the ample anchorage make this a winner - its also a close walk to town and "olde mystik village" which has FAR more shops than "historic Downtown" and the aquarium - the only drawback is the bridge, but it opens like clockwork every :40 past the hour and there is not a lot of current, and the river is quite wide with a town dock to "hold off of" if you need it (No Docking Permitted)

#5 Ned may have space and the marina has "cleaned up its act" in the last year or two - there is a pool there and the walk to town or the seaport is not that bad. again, the moorings of masons island would be close by and transient dockage is cheap here as after one night you get 1/2 off

If your looking for a restaurant try Ford's at Nymans boatyard in Noank - Better quality and value than Abbots....

So my short answer P1, Mystic Seaport Marina - P2, Mystic Shipyard - P3, Seaport Marine - P4 (if there is such a thing), Brewers

That's great to hear, Neil. Welcome to the party!

Just food for thought. I'd be happy to take a boatload over to Napatree for the day. Furthermore, there's a great restaurant in Stonington borough called DogWatch at Dodson's Boatyard. I generally take the boat there Saturdays but since we'll be in Block I won't make my usual trip. If people are interested we could grab dinner on the way back.

Napatree during the week
