CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

We are Ron! I just know the other two boats that I am running with start to finish both want MYC. Since I had committed to them before the flotilla ended up coinciding with our dates, I feel obligated to fulfill their requests. We will still make Shelter Island & Block island. It's like last year when half of the flotilla stayed in block while the other half forged on to the final destination, Newport. No problems there either! Now should I sing Kumbaya? Lol

Port#2 Mystic!

Love Montauk and will be heading there this year anyway. Went to Mystic 2 or 3 years ago and enjoyed the seaport and the evening walks around the village after they closed to the public.

Just Busting.... Its all good..........

I will say, mystic sounds like a great stop! I'm sure the rest of the gang will have a good time there.
Ron,
Are you planning on leaving for Shelter early Saturday morning or do you think you will head out by me on Friday? I'm going to head to Shinnecock Friday afternoon, depending on tides, and grab dinner at Meschutte Park Beach Hut. They have live music & a classic car show on Friday nights.

The only problem I see with you guys is that we are docking at a Suffolk County Marina there. I'm not sure what the non-resident situation is.

Bro,
Do you even have to ask that? You are always welcome! I just didn't know if you are going to do that Essex trip and leave your boat out east, hence, you will be wayyyy ahead of us! Lol
Really, if anyone wants to meet up on the south shore we can try and work it out like last year.
We can address that as we get closer, although I do remember a couple of you muttering something like "never again.....never" after you rode those 3-4 footers into my marina last year! Its funny because it kind of reminded me of the end of Rocky when Apollo Creed is saying " there ain't gonna be no rematch" lmao

I will talk to the other south shore contingents, but my preference is to Hell Gate AKA Todd's Marina Friday and start from there.
Non Resident? i will use Tommy's place as my address!

Sideways into your marina was Bad, the Canal was much worse................

Hahahaha hey mirage keep your thrusters at hand its hairy coming in to tods marina u have a steady 25knt wind and 3-4 footers bashing yourport side and the entrance is only about 25ft wide ! Hey john my genny won't stay running dunno how much thrusting I'm gunna b able to do. Well mirage best of luck to u. The wind did the perfect job of pushing him right into a slip. May not have been the right one but it was an empty one. I was gettin an adrenaline rush watching him pull in! Then ron comes in at what looked like half throttle wheel turned hard to port going straight! I got in just as the wind was picking up and still had to pull in way faster then I should have . Tod I dunno how u do It. I'm guessing u just pic your days wisely.
Also I think u guys should take my advice that was ignored last year and LEAVE ATLEAST 100 YARDS INVETWEEN BOATS GOING THROUGH SHINECOCK LOCKS NOT 20FT LOL and yes that's y I went first

I don't remember you saying much of anything as we entered the rapids. Although, that could be because I couldn't hear much over the sound of me crapping my pants! Lol

Joe,

As we discussed, your friend Vinny has been moved up from List of Mabies to the List of Participants. It's great to see that our list is growing.

I was running through some ideas for Sag Harbor, but when I checked the tides table this port became even less attractive for the dates we would be there (8/11-8/13).

2014-08-11 5:13 AM EDT -0.33 feet Low Tide
2014-08-11 5:54 AM EDT Sunrise
2014-08-11 11:18 AM EDT 3.25 feet High Tide
2014-08-11 5:31 PM EDT -0.22 feet Low Tide
2014-08-11 7:53 PM EDT Sunset
2014-08-11 11:40 PM EDT 3.51 feet High Tide
2014-08-12 5:55 AM EDT Sunrise
2014-08-12 6:02 AM EDT -0.33 feet Low Tide
2014-08-12 12:10 PM EDT 3.35 feet High Tide
2014-08-12 6:25 PM EDT -0.22 feet Low Tide
2014-08-12 7:51 PM EDT Sunset
2014-08-13 12:33 AM EDT 3.37 feet High Tide
2014-08-13 5:56 AM EDT Sunrise
2014-08-13 6:51 AM EDT -0.26 feet Low Tide

2014-08-13 1:03 PM EDT 3.38 feet High Tide

As you can see, the low tide times are very much against our normal schedule. There's no way I can make it there by 5am. As far as I remember I need low tide to make it under the fixed bridge, which is 21' vertical clearance. And that's with two of my tallest antennas down. I don't remember if I ever made it thru during mid tide, but if I miss the 7-8am window (which might give me less than 1' clearance), I'm stuck there until 2pm the earliest.

But, since we don't have a single vote for Sag, just few people said that they would consider it, I won't sweat it too much.

Keep your votes coming, guys. We need to get the port #2 settled.

Did I Mention Montauk?

Since no one is voting for the serene, romantic and picturesque venue of Watch Hill/Napatree, I will add my votes for alternate Port #2 locations.

I grew up in Waterford, a stone's throw from Mystic, and my brother currently owns a home in Mystic, so, while it is a beautiful location, it's a bit boring for me. Been there, done that, and have a t-shirt to prove it. But, I will also admit that it is a great spot, so I would support that as Port #2 (my p2), with Essex as a fall back position (my p3). My wife and I will probably sneak away to either New London (I have friends there, and we'll want to go see a band and have dinner there at least one night, based out of Crocker's Boat Yard), or Napatree for one night alone on the hook in the dark under the stars, doing what couples do under those conditions.......

Based on the spreadsheet, it looks like we're going to wind up in Mystic, notwithstanding Todd's subtle push for MYC. So, anyone that wants to break away from Mystic for a night of drinking, good food, good music, and debauchery is welcome to come with us to New London one night! (I know people.....)

Dale,

I like the way you think. When we say Mystic it doesn't mean we'll locked in to the Seaport and the downtown. Granted that it's the primary attraction, but let's think outside the box here and take a quick look at what's around. We're surrounded by number of beautiful spots. Here are just the few that stand out (all of these just within 5-8 miles):

Napatree Beach - As Dale mentioned, a great spot to spend the day on the hook for those that love beach
Fishers Island - It has a beautiful anchorage area with very clean water in the protected harbor making it another great swimming spot for the day.
Flat Hammock - Follow the red line and the circle. A secluded island island making it a very attractive spot for beach lovers, which accessible by boat only.
Small Islands around mystic - Those that love to explore on dinghies will be delighted with tons of options.
New London - For those that had enough of Mystic on the first night or from past experience can simply take a quick ride to NL where you have tons of dining options.

The bottom line is that it's all about how we plan our stay in Mystic. It might be very cool option to take couple of big boats to one of the beach areas just for the day. And if we wish to spice up one of the nights, we can take couple of big boats for night cruise and dining in remote location.

There are tons of options here, we just have to be creative.
