CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

Hi Alex

Four Winners is in for a slip in shelter, montauk wth Todd and anchoring in block isand.

looking forward to another great time.

Neil, Barbra, Noah(10), Sam(7)

I thought Todd was going to Mystic with the rest of us.

Just food for thought. I'd be happy to take a boatload over to Napatree for the day. Furthermore, there's a great restaurant in Stonington borough called DogWatch at Dodson's Boatyard. I generally take the boat there Saturdays but since we'll be in Block I won't make my usual trip. If people are interested we could grab dinner on the way back.

That sounds like a good idea, Ross. By ordering out or do anything that involves catering would indicate that we should pick a marina that has a clubhouse, or at least a picnic area with tables and benches.

I thought Todd was going to Mystic with the rest of us.

Sheesh..... Greg, this was suppose to be a secret surprise. You forgot?

Welcome aboard Jeremy,

I stayed at Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina last year. I loved it there! The dock master was great. The kids loved the indoor pool & I really enjoyed the town.

Todd,
Thanks for the welcome. We were at the Newport Harbor Hotel docks last year for 5 nights. We had a lot of fun. We have done Newport from land many times but we really enjoyed it staying on the water. I believe I met you and Neil at the pool on our last night. We are looking forward to meeting everyone at Block.

Is it too late to be added to the "maybe" list? I just found this thread and read about the Flotilla. I have to run the plan past The Admiral, but we have been talking about a trip like this. Is the week of August 9 - August 17 still the proposed dates? Is the itinerary from Alex's post still the latest plan?
Our info for the Participant list is: "h-gerry": Harold and Arlene, Daniel (5), Chelsea (Black Lab mix, 2yo), "Zuzu's Petal's II" 400 EC, Oceanside, NY (south shore Nassau County), all TBD
Thanks.

Jeremy,

That's great to hear that you'll be able to join the Flotilla. We're looking forward to meet your crew. Thanks for your offer. As we get closer to the date, and all our activities will be forming up, I'll be sure to communicate.

Hi Harold and welcome to CSR.

There's still plenty of time to join the flotilla. As you can see from the first page, the dates are set in stone and we just finalized the official itinerary.

WHEN:
The “CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014” will be held on the week of August 9[SUP]th[/SUP] through August 17th
The “Feast of the East” is scheduled for Saturday, August 9[SUP]th[/SUP]
and will be held at Island Boatyard & Marina: http://www.islandboatyard.com/index.html

WHERE:
Itinerary:
Port 1 (2 nights) 8/9-8/11: West Neck Harbor (Island Boatyard & Marina)
Port 2 (2 nights) 8/11-8/13: Mystic (Marina TBD)
Port 3 (4 nights) 8/13-8/17: Block Island (we’ll have a raft in the anchorage area and other group will stay at Champlins).

I'm adding you to the list of maybies on our official list on the first page and I'll look forward for you to be ready to move up to the list of participants. As you might have noticed, we have a group traveling from GSB. You might want to join them.

Jeremy,

Great memory! Yes we did meet at the pool. How did you make out with your running gear? As I recall that was your first trip of distance after hitting the gear on a rock & having it repaired & it was making a noise or vibrating. How was that trip home? I hope it was uneventful. I look forward to catching up at block.

Welcome Harold,

I will be leaving my marina on Friday, August 8th in the afternoon and heading to Shinnecock Marina just north of the locks. This way it will be a nice short trip to Shelter the next day for the feast. You are welcome to join us. I know that Pauley O, Neil and myself are definitely going. Joe & Ron are possible too. The marina we are staying at is a Suffolk county marina and may have residency restrictions that affect you and Ron. I can check further into that if you are interested. There are many marinas in the area that may also be able to accommodate you guys.

The tow home was long, 7 hrs at 5-7kts in 3-4ft seas just rolling around. I don't wish that ride on anyone. I give props to the towboat guys. They were awesome. I am glad I spent that $180 on the membership last year. Would have been a $4000 tow without the membership. In the end I made out great, my insurance company not so much. I got 2 brand new outdrives. The old ones had about 10-15 teeth broken in the lower unit from the rock strike. The noise I was hearing was the teeth bits rubbing against the bearing carrier in the lower unit and scoring the housing. Only missed 1 weekend and that weekend we just went out in a buddies boat. To top it off I kept the old outdrives and sold them on Craigslist for $800 to a rebuilder so that only left we with $300 out of pocket towards my deductible.

Wow! It sounds like you turned lemons into lemonade! Good for you!

Hello Todd,

Thanks for the invite. We may very well take you up on the offer to link up for the trip. I am familiar with Shinnecock Marina, as my boss keeps his boat there during part of the season. I was going to ask him about joining Club Sea Ray and the trip as he has a 2003 Sea Ray 500DA. I can see if he can "hook me up" with a slip for the night if we make the stop over. I am still discussing the trip with the wife to see if we can do it. Out of curiosity, where is your marina?
Thanks again.

Harold

Alex…Any formal plans for Block Island (dinners, drinks, party, etc.)

John,

We usually have few things going on, which include all you've described above and some more . I'm planning to list them in our "Daily Compass", which I'll share with everyone later on. Drinking? This is a "dry gang..."...:smt043...but there's no way we'll miss things like "wine tasting" and "martini tasting" parties...., just to name the few.

In addition, I was going to throw an idea and see what you guys think. We maintain our usual tradition, which transitioned from our rendezvous in to a Flotilla kick off party, AKA "The Feast Of The East". I was thinking that it would be a good idea to have a "End of the Flotilla Party" on the Block. Looking at everyone's preliminary plans, it seems that even though we'll miss few people in West Neck Harbor, we'll have almost everyone join/re-unite with the Flotilla in Block. So, this got me thinking about the end of the Flotilla party on the last day.

Since this would be an event at the end of the trip, I think the easiest way to do it would be catering. So, if you guys think that this is a good idea in general, let's brainstorm the places as possible candidates. Even though we'll have a large group, reserving a place in advance shouldn't be an issue.

Harold,

We are most likely leaving Seaford the afternoon of the 8th, and catch up with Todd at his Marina which is in Blue Point, and caravan with the group. There are others from the south shore that will also head out.
