CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

Hey Alex,

Soooo.....go ahead and add us to the list! My friend Pauley O will be coming too! You met him at the winter rendezvous in Port Jeff. It will be him, Susie and Sean- age 12? I told him to join CSR when he gets a chance, even though he has a Carver 33SS!
For now it looks like we will do Shelter (& stay in the marina so you only need 10 more boats), then we will probably go to Montauk Yacht Club for a couple days and meet back up with the group at Block. I'm gonna try and get a couple of days in at Westhampton Bath and tennis on the way home from Block!

Are we considering staying at Mystic Seaport itself? If so, we've actually done that in the past. Pretty cool for the kids, they let you stay in the seaport after hours and you can wander around a bit.

That’s my original plan. I’ve stayed in both (in the Seaport and outside) and I think that being right in Seaport is much better option. The difference in price is zero, b/c that’s what you’d pay anyway to get in to the museum. So, it pays to be right at the doorstep. Plus, there’s an anchorage area right in front of the marina. It’s tight but it’s an option. The place is great and we had no problem letting our kids wonder on their own.

Ross, is trying to find something. So, unless there's another very attractive deal, then I'd vote for Seaport Marina. BTW, staying in another marina is not a big deal as for the most part everything is in walking distance. But, we can always use dinghies. It's a nice area to explore by dink.

Few words about my findings in regards to Seaport Marina. They have a special area for events like our feast. But, it's managed by catering company who's in charge of reservations. I left voicemails but haven't heard from anyone yet. The docks don't provide enough what we need, as there are no tables, chair and/or grills. So, if we were to stay in Seaport, our only option on their premises would be catering.

I've made some adjustments to the spreadsheet. Due to the fact that we have 3 boats planning to go to West Neck Harbor->Sag->Block, I've added this as an itinerary and also Sag in the list of proposed ports.

We need more votes!

I officially vote for option 7. Works for me as its hard for a 7 to 10 day getaway in the summer, our busy time. I could join you guys for the weekend in west neck, go to work Monday and Tuesday, head to Block with you on Wednesday, perfect.

With regard to the Seaport, while it may be the best spot as far as value, things to do etc, I'd really be surprised if they could handle 12 boats. I'm pretty sure their transient docks are linear and I doubt they could spare 500' in the summer. If so I'm pretty sure they'd have to spread you out and given they have like a mile of shoreline it may not be a short walk between boats! Looking forward to their response. The entire right side of the photo is the seaport.(wish I knew how to draw on the photos like you guys do)

It can get confusing but seaport marine is a different marina between the two bridges (that is just finishing up a new restauraunt and several improvements to their property), to avoid confusion I would refer to "seaport marina" as the Marina at Mystic Seaport.....

Also, the designated anchorage just past the seaport is expansive with room for several boats or a large raft.

You can put me down for P1 Itinerary #7. We never made Mystic last year, so hopefully since it's before Block this time we'll make it. :)

How many days are we thinking at each port?

Thanks for clarification, Mike. Marina at Mystic Seaport it is the one we're discussing. I totally agree regarding the anchorage. It's small, maybe ok for 4-5 boats to swing. But, if we position a fixed raft we can probably fit 5-10 boats.

Greg,

Todd is correct. The original idea was to have 4 nights in Block (our last port), which leaves 2 nights in 1st and 2nd ports.

Will Newport be before Block, or are we not set on that yet? If we've decided Block is the last port, are we all to individually call to make reservations? What will be those dates?

I believe once the itinerary is set and marina vs mooring boats are established , Alex will contact the appropriate marinas with his spreadsheet info. After that we will individually call to reserve. Champlins in block will email you a form that you fill out & mail to them with a check. Basically, no refunds there!
As far as Newport goes, I'm not sure what the status is there. It looks like the first GROUP port will be Shelter Island. The second port has not been established but lots of talk about Mystic right now. I am personally probably going to Montauk as my second stop. Then the final destination is Block Island. You are certainly free to adjust your plans on what suits your crew. I think some folks are doing stops individually prior to Shelter. I will be in Shinnecock Marina the night before Shelter. I hope this info helps!

Michael,

Here's the dates breakdown. I'll update the first page with details on the dates and then add the ports once we'll finalize them.

Todd pretty much answered your question regarding the reservations.

As you can see from the spreadsheet on the proposed ports, Newport is not getting too many votes. So, at this point it doesn't look it'll make a list of desired ports. Here's the latest on the votes (guys, if I missed anything or anyone, please let me know):

Hopefully we can join you over one of the weekends; looks like you will be close to our home port for most of the trip. My wife has a lot of business travel through August but we will pencil it in. Shelter, Napatree or Block we can hit any of them over a weekend.
