CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

I think you guys have come up with a good option here. I'm not signing up yet (wife) but am following this thread closely! I would P1 this option also if I was signed up.

Let's see if this overall pic will help us make the choices. I've added my votes based on the currently proposed itineraries.

Sounds great Steve.

I agree with you Alex, put me down for P1 for the feast at West Neck Harbor.

I'm with Mike and Pam - so my P1s are Shelter, Napatree Beach/Watch Hill, and Block. Good work on West Neck Harbor, guys - it's a good choice.

Alex, since West neck was not an option this morning when I voted I have to change my voting selections to: P1-option #7 we would like to see Mystic by boat .P2-option#8 as Essex sounds good also .

Alex,
As previously mentioned, we are hoping to at least make some portion of this trip, most likely the feast. You can put # 7 as our P1.

Alex, I hope this doesn't cause a problem, but please change my P1 to West Neck, Watch Hill and Block.

Alright guys,

I've added/changed your votes. Please let me know if I missed anything or anyone. Don't hesitate to ask for changes, it's very simple to do for me. But, with a lot of things going on it's easy to make a clerical typo. So, if I misplaced anyone's vote, just let me know and I'll make the correction.

We have strong 8 votes for West Neck Harbor, which clearly puts this port in the lead. I'll wait a little more to get more input from others and then we'll start making calls. BTW, we need to keep in mind that we'll need to decide who's going to take the slips. Without this input I have no reason calling the marina.

Here's what we have so far:

We're going to include Newport on our trip. 1st or 2nd is fine.

Michael, I have your votes for Newport and Block. In case if Newport doesn't get enough votes (for port #1 or port #2), we'll meet up in Block. For now I assumed that your itinerary doesn't bring you close enough Westbound to attend the feast. Am I right?

I wish I was going eastbound, John. I love those ports.

If anyone is interested, here's the link to the marina in West Neck Harbor:

I got some additional info regarding options for the arrangement. I realize that it's possible for the majority to stay in the raft, so I asked about minimum slip the group require to take in order for the whole group (who too kthe slip and those that are rafted) to be allowed using their facilities at least for the eve during the feast. So, we have two option:

1. We need to take about dozen of slips in order for our feast to be held at the marina's designated picnic area.
2. If most don't want the slips and wish to take a chance to fit everyone (or majority) in the anchorage, then we can order catering service and use their restaurant's facility. In this case we would be allowed to take our dinghies and pull up to the marina/restaurant for the evening. I'm trying to get in touch with the restaurant to get prices and see if this an option that would work well for us.

I'll keep you guys posted with more details as I find them. In the meantime, if anyone has any thoughts, objections or suggestions, let's hear them.

Glad to see the feast is back on in shelter - sounds good to me - as for the second port, we'll probably do sag - napatree is a great spot with a good beach but why bother, your going to block next with a much better beach - as far a dinghying in to watch hill, don't blink or you'll miss everything - there is very little there and what is there closes up by 8pm - you may get to see taylor swift though...mystic or newport would be much better choices, again, i don't have a dog in that fight, but i'm just putting it out there for you guys - either way i will meet back up with you guys at block.

Alex,
Did you ask if they would rent out the space needed to host the feast? Kind of like what MYC did??

Yes Ron, I did ask if this was an option. The thing is that this marina is on a small side and they fill up quick on the weekends. They try to maintain nice, clean and quite atmosphere providing the comforts to the slip holders and transients. The picnic area they have is close to everything. So, if they were to rent it out to our group, then between all slips being rented to others and everyone (assuming for worst case scenario) is there, now imagine our group of 80-100 people show up. The place will be very much packed and the dockmaster feels that it would be unfair to those that pay the premium to face this discomfort. It makes sense, so I don't disagree with his logic.

On the other hand, if we take about dozen slips, then the head count becomes a lot more reasonable and when the other half of the group shows up (from the raft), it won't be too much of a zoo. This is why he felt that this is the number that makes sense. So, this is why we're left with the options I've posted.

Mike, I totally agree with you on Watch Hill. It's nice to see it at least once or transient for one night when it's on your way to another destination. But, I don't know much of activities there for the full weekend. The "town" is two blocks long. There's only one restaurant which won't fit us anyway, and based on the reviews we've read it wasn't anything to brag about. In our case, doing the run for one night doesn't make much sense. Mystic is by far better choice, especially for families with kids.

Are we considering staying at Mystic Seaport itself? If so, we've actually done that in the past. Pretty cool for the kids, they let you stay in the seaport after hours and you can wander around a bit.

Block is as West as we have time to go.
