CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

Followed you guys last year and looked like a blast... . We have a 1 year old . What are your thoughts about bringing a toddler on this trip?

- Andrew

Well we had Johnathan last year so I'm sure your son is better behaved than him!!!!!!! :smt043

Followed you guys last year and looked like a blast... I am considering joining you all this year but I'm not sure yet... We have a 1 year old who will be 1.5 by the time we go... don't know if maybe we should wait till next year when he is a bit older to join in all the fun... Don't want to be the party poopers..... What are your thoughts about bringing a toddler on this trip? He did great on the boat last summer but he wasn't mobile yet.....

I'm up to go wherever...

I guess after you guys set it all up we decide if were gonna jump on board... Maybe meet up for a leg of it...

- Andrew

Both of my girls have been on the boat since they were born, my youngest was 3 weeks old on her first trip out. They are 3.5 and 6 now. As long as you keep them busy and get off the boat some times so they don't get board then I think he will be fine. We are on the boat every weekend and usually by Thursday morning they are asking when are we going back down to the boat. It is the most fun we have as a family IMO.

Ok Ok - You've won me over Alex (combined with the fact that it looks like Mystic will be my HP this season) My P1 for the Feast is Taylor's and yes, P1 for block as the "last" stop. As far as the second stop is concerned, The marina in Norwich is like a diamond in a goats ass......its all that's there - its nice, but small, and the casino is the only attraction (shuttle Provided). Don't get me wrong, I think the casino's great, but my crew is able to visit it by car often. That combined with a long ride up an ugly river in the opposite direction of the next stop and I'm out. We'll probably do sag and/or Montauk and meet back upwith the group in Block if thats the way things go. As far as block is concerned, we need a far better spot this year even splitting up if we need to. Further in it is much more comfortable.

With regards to your Newport Questions, watersports would have to be off the west side of goat island and it can get choppy there. There is nowhere to build a raft - there is a small beach in brettons cove, but no place to safely swim off your boat.

That's great, Mike.

Regarding Norwich, it was just a suggestion to visit a new to us port, which was recommended by others in the past. It's location also makes sense to have it as a mid point (2nd port). I remember Brian had good comments on it as well. I'm open for suggestions on other ports, it doesn't have to be Norwich. Keep your ideas coming, they're all interesting.

Thanks for clarifying few things about Newport. If the water activities are not allowed, if the rafting is not allowed in the anchorage area, then those are enough reasons for me to vote against it as a port to have the Feast on. I have no objections having it as intermediate port, though.

Hi Andrew,

I'm glad you're considering participating. Regarding your question, IMO it's impossible anyone to say as every family is different. You'll hear many stories of folks having small kids come along on a trip. We're no exception as we always have kids of all ages cruising along. Some bring babysitters along, but most manage on their own. But, in the end only you know better whether you and your wife will be able to do this comfortably. Of course a lot depends on how well your child handles the seas and how long you can keep him/her occupied while underway. One thing I assure you is that you'll always have a group of people offering you help, in case if you need anything.

I'm not sure if you took long trips in the past, but probably being docked in a marina would be much easier with a small child vs. staying anchored or on a mooring.

As you know we'll have a group coming from GSB area, so as long as your timing works right you'll always have company.

Lastly, as you probably have read in our last year's thread, being flexible is very important.

Feast - Taylors

P1 - Shelter
P2 - Newport
P3 - Block

Any interest in an alternate route up the Hudson to Lake Champlain?

Thanks for your vote, Ron.

Great idea on totally different direction. I think this can happen, but IMO it more realistic to do the ports on the table and come up with a nice itinerary up the Hudson to maybe all the way to 1000 Islands next year. I'd love to go there. Taking Inspiration on the trip to 1000 Islands is on my bucket list. I think trip like this would require 2 weeks and we'll need to have much more than just 3 ports.

However, let's hear what others think about this.

As you know we're new to the forum and to our Sea Ray this year, but would love to join in and make the trip. Not 100% sure just yet, but will keep you updated.

Alex we're both out of Stamford, so that would be a big help to us if we decided the make the trip.

Jonathan,

It was indeed a lot of fun last year and I hope that you'll be able to make it this year as well. I know you have a lot of projects lined up. But, I just want to remind you that it's important not to overload yourself with more projects that it'll keep you in port or miss a trip of the season. The season is way too short and any enhancement project can always wait until the off season, which by all means should not be a show stopper for advantures during the boating time.

Just a friendly reminder....

Greg,

That's great that you made the decision to join our Flotilla. Bringing more of your friends means the more the marrier. So, feel free, your friends are wellcome.

It's nice to have a vote for Mystic.

Hi folks...

We will join again this year. Liz and I extended our trip last year from Newport and went up to Boston, P-Town, woods hole, Oak Bluff, Montauk, and finally back to Haverstraw on the Hudson. Unbelievable time...also had season tix to the Red Sox and we all know how that turned out....yes I'm a Boston fan.

We are changing marinas this season to Stamford...proximity to the sound was our driving reason to make the switch.

"Ruff Seas", "390DA", "Tom, Liz, Max, Candy, and Munchkin"

Will submit our votes shortly.

We too are out of Stamford at the Ponus Yacht Club. Great to have another fellow CSR member joining the harbor. Should be a fun trip.

Sounds good. Let me know when you're ready to jump on the list of participants. BTW, now I know the real excuse why you're skipping PJ. :smt043

When you were at Taylors Island last year were there lots of jelly fish? We were there 3 weeks earlier and they were so thick, they were clogging intakes.

It was weird last year, just a week or two earlier or later and the jellies situation was totally different from a spot to a spot. There were no jellies at Taylor's Island, but as you might have seen from our posts, we got hammered in Block with huge red jellies. On the bright side, jellies totally failed to spoil our vacation.

I would support a trip to Lake Champlain - that would be a fun cruise. Plenty of interesting stops on the way up the river too.
