I had guest on board recently and found that one of the guest clothing die has transfered to the vinyl seats. I have tried everything in my locker. Cant even lighten it.

Any suggestions besides no guests?

I've seen this before and Fantastic took it off. I've also used Soft'nScrub with bleach aand had good results. You need to follow up with a good product to restore the vinyl. Obviously Soft'nScrub should not be the first choice. I've even used fine rubbing compound when all else has failed on vinyl. Go slowly and don't use a heavy hand. Sun will whiten some stains.

Mr. Clean MAJIC-ERASERS, great for cleaning your seats. It may not get it all but as the others has stated the sun will fade it to nothing in a few days.

be careful with Mr. Clean Erasers after reading the MSDS sheet on them they will not be touching my boat again and I was a true believer. You may want to do a search on this board for that information.

In order try
  1. Spray 9. Detergent based. Tested by Powerboat Reports as best cleaner
  2. Bleach based cleaners. Try to avoid the abrasive ones like soft scrub. Try an oxygen bleach (OxyClean) diluted in water before trying chlorine bleach diluted in water.
  3. Let it sit in the sun for a few days. That often will bleach out the stain after you cleaned it with detergents.
  4. Abrasives like Magic Clean Eraser. This is a last resort of extreme measure! These wear the vinyl and change the finish. Might be OK on an old boat with worn out seats, but I won't use this stuff on my boat, despite the vinyl being 9 years old. The material doesn't look old.

I didn't see anything in the MSDS on those erasers. They are just melamine foam, which is pretty much inert. Are you sure you're not looking at 'net bs?

Best regards,
Frank C

Sorry to semi-hi jack, but what about an ink pen mark. (D#*% Coast Guard Auxiliary guy in the boat for a VSC! :smt013) Would you go about this the same way? Thanks in advance for any help. Oh yea, the seats are brand new (to me), bought a new 2007 a little over a month ago.

Same as I stated above.

Sorry to hear but I newer seen pen ink removed from vinyl seat (especially if is older than a day or two). For some reasons ink "soak" in vinyl and is not on surface. Only solution what works is vinyl repair specialist who will "paint" new vinyl over damage.

I too have had blue jean streaks on the vinyl. The other favorite is nail polish streaks from rubbing a finger nail across the vinyl. I have used rubbing compound and clorox cleaner to remove most stains. No ill effects after 5+ years when used properly.
