Looking to trailer out there and would like to find a place for a long weekend that has docking so I dont have to haul her out everyday. Also with the 18month old it would be nice to come in whenever needed and then back out.
Anyone do anything similar? Places to avoid?
I hear Chatham is pretty nice.:smt100

Usually Hyannis Marina is very accommodating when they see a Sea Ray!

Cape Cod is very tough for finding a dock. Are you opposed to staying on a mooring? Does your boat have a dinghy? I have not gone as far as Chatham by boat. Our place is in Cotuit. Cotuit has a nice ramp in Princess Cove. Falmouth and Hyannis are two obvious other spots. To rent a mooring in Cotuit you can contact Crosby Yacht Yard. Cotuit is a well protected pretty big harbor with lots of beaches to pull up to. You can pull up to the town dock there for short periods of time and run up to the town store for the basics. About a ten minute walk.

Thanks Bush...Hyannis is a little busy and more hustle than further out isn't it?
Honestly would love to be able to find an area where we can go for a cruise maybe find some shallows/sandbar to hang out, etc

Jim, not opposed to staying on a mooring but we dont have a dink on our little 20'. I guess if that were the case I could just launch everyday..??? Love the idea of beaches to pull up to! Keeps admiral happy.
Before we were boat owners, we stayed in Hyannis and thought it was so so...didnt like having to drive almost everywhere

The ideal thing for what you're looking for would be to trailer to Falmouth (Green Pond or Falmouth Harbor) and cruise over to Vineyard Haven, and stay over there. It's perfect. Usually plenty of docking space (Black Dog Wharf and Owen Park Tisbury Town Dock). You can cruise from VH to Menemsha, Cape Poge/Edgartown, Tarpaulin Cove, Lambert's Cove, etc. It would put you in a great location to do some exploring. Easy 10 minute ride across the Sound from Falmouth to VH.

Bush....seems like a viable option for sure! Sent you a PM for some more info.
Are you guys familiar with the Cape Cod bay side at all?
Sorry for all the questions but this would be our first time out there with the boat and I want to make the best out of it

Just replied to the PM. Not so good with the PM's.. they seem to confuse me. Anyway, hopefully you were able to receive it. I would not bother with the Cape Cod Bay side. Not familiar with it at all, as we've had no reason to venture that way. Definitely a lot to do on this side. The Elizabethan Islands are beautiful. On a calm morning, skip over to Cuttyhunk (the last island in the Elizabethan chain). It's beautiful if you haven't been. Very quiet, quaint. You won't believe you're in Massachusetts. It's unbelievable. If you're researching these places, you would go through "Quick's Hole" to access Cuttyhunk from the Buzzard's Bay side. It's a bit of a ride, but not bad at all. We do it from Falmouth in about 40 minutes. Also, if you have the guts to venture through Woods Hole, just before you come out to Buzzard's Bay from the Sound side, bang a left into Hadley's Harbor. Sailboat paradise, serene, quiet, drop the anchor anywhere. Sometimes there are wild horses swimming, etc.

Wow....all great info. Now I just need to coordinate lodging.....OR.....i could trade in for a Dancer!
Thanks soooo much for the info.....Keep it coming everyone!

No need for a Dancer around here! You have the perfect boat for our area. We kept with an open bow just so we can enjoy all the beautiful beaches and stuff around here.

Lodging-wise, look at The Mansion House hotel in Vineyard Haven. Great location, Main St., Vineyard Haven, just up the road from where you'd dock the boat (about a 2-3 minute walk). They have a great roof deck and you can see out to the water! It's great. That would definitely be our top choice. Can't go wrong.

Thanks Bush...the info is priceless! So is it safe to assume the places you suggest are kid friendly? Mikayla is 18 months old.

I've been trailering to the Cape for years. There is so much to see that you would be better off pulling her out everyday and going to a new spot. If the winds are bad on the Sound, you can put her in the Bay. If you want to see the seals, hit Chatham. For a nice relaxing day, pull up on a sandy beach in the Bass River. The Cape offers a lot of good public ramps with parking. Staying in one spot really limits the experience.

I still go every year, but go by the water now, and I miss the variety.

Definitely! I'm actually a high school student down here, Legal Limit is my family's boat. I do all the CSR stuff. I'm the "Captain" .

Take her to the Flying Horse's Carousel in Oak Bluffs. The kids love that. You can grab a blue town mooring in OB. Usually they raft 3 or 4 boats to each mooring if/when it gets busy, and then you call the launch on the VHF to take you in. Very easy. Definitely more of a party place than a relaxing day at the beach. But hey, everything is so easily accessible that you can explore a lot in one day (if the weather cooperates!). If the seas don't cooperate, don't stress because the buses on the Vineyard are excellent. $1 per town, $7 unlimited daily pass. Best deal around, you can take it up to Aquinnah to see the Gay Head Cliffs, or down to Edgartown (and just about everywhere else)! It's great. You won't run out of things to do if you use Vineyard Haven as your home base for a few days!

I see Charlie's point, but it's kind of part of the fun to be able to have a home base somewhere, and keep your traveling for the boat, rather than in the towing vehicle!
More of a boating-filled experience to see what it would be like to be here permanently! We keep our boat at a marina in Falmouth, and don't feel limited one bit! Even when we had our 220 Sundeck, we were able to go just about everywhere!

Where are you in Falmouth? I'm looking for a dock in the Falmouth area when we come down for a couple of weeks in August.

Weave, Jeremey's Point in Wellfleet(?) is a beautiful sandbar to pull the boat on to. Quiet, protected, and great for families. Wellfleet has a nice ramp too.

We're at Green Pond, but it's seasonal docking. Not a transient marina (not to mention you wouldn't get under our bridge!). Look at MacDougall's in Falmouth Harbor! You should definitely have some luck over there. Nice marina.

Hey guys....This is great info.....Thanks again!
We are only headed for a long weekend as this will be a whole new experience for us.
Our vacations usually do not include the boat if we take one however I am trying to change that.
Admiral loves the boat but also loves the beach so this is my motivation. Also think the little one will really love the adventure and exploration side of things!
Im sure I'll be reaching out for some more info.

Another option, the one I use, is to launch at Mattapoisett. They have the best ramp in the region. Free parking for your tow vehicle in a remote lot (about 5 minute walk away) and police patrolled. From there its a straight shot 9mi East across Buzzard's Bay to Woods Hole which opens up all the options listed above.

By launching there, you'll save the hastle of the dealing with Cape traffic, the bridges and another 20 to 50 miles of driving.

Check out Naushon Island's (part of the Elizabeth Islands) Tarpaulin Cove, Cuttyhunk, Menemsha, Lambert's Cove on Vineyard. The whole area is ripe with beaches and places to visit.

Along Buzzard's Bay there are many options, too.

I would do hyannis marina.....transient slips, pool, nice showere, restaurants, bar, egg island (sand bar).....

Thanks guys.....Keep the info coming! Hyannis sounds like a good idea too...Wife thought it was kind of commercial but that was before we were boat owners....Do tell about egg island
