Cape Cod Places to trailer

We’re at Hyannis Marina

Egg Island is just out side of Hyannis Marina on Lewis Bay it's the sand bar to the right as you enter Lewis bay.

It's nice when the sound is rough.

It definitely depends what you're looking for. All the above options are excellent, it's just completely up to how you want to spend your long weekend. Hyannis is definitely a bit busy, Vineyard Haven is a quiet island paradise. I'd stay over the Vineyard if I were you, just to get the whole island/boating experience. So much fun, endless things to do. Remember, if one of the days is too windy for the boat, you don't want to be bored!

Depending on how much $ you're prepared to spend for lodging, if the Mansion House in VH would be too expensive (or booked full), you could look into the Vineyard Harbor Motel. Never stayed there, but it looks pretty nice. Right on the beach in VH, basically right next to your boat! We've walked around it before, obviously the rooms aren't as nice as the Mansion House but you can't beat that location.

Just trying to do some thinking for you!

Keep thinking Bush......This info is great! just piecing thing together now. I need to really study some of these charts.
That brings up another question of planning trips on a Garmin 440....can I plan them on my PC and then put the memory card in the Gamrin? Whats best way to do this?
Sorry for the rookie questions..
By the way Bush, the docking is public or do I have to phone or radio ahead? Again, never had to do the docking thing so its all new to me.....Gotta learn sometime I guess!

Thanks Chuck! My unit is preloaded with the coastal charts and unlocked for that area....that should work perfect!

Sure thing.

BTW - where in Western MA are you? I'm in central MA, Harvard.

You can call Black Dog Wharf ahead of time and see what they think. We usually just go over for a few hours and have no problem pulling right up. With overnight docking though, I bet they'd appreciate, if not require, reservations. Give a call a few weeks before you plan on heading over just to see what they suggest. If you're looking at the Owen Park Town Dock (right near Black Dog Wharf), not sure they do overnight docking, but you have to call the Vineyard Haven Harbormaster for that.

Good luck!

Bush and others, thanks so much for the info.
Bush...I think we are going to go for the day and not overnight over on MV...too much stuff like stroller and pack and play for the little one to lug over there to overnight. I love the idea of the E Islands and Cuttyhunk. Charlg's idea of bass river sounds good too.
Falmouth looks like a great idea right now.
More questions: whats the proper protocol for public dockage? Is there usually dockage readily available? Do you call ahead on radio? Channel, etc? I am flipping through my Chapman's now but firsthand experience and help is great too...THanks for the support guys

You have some great ideas on the cape.. we live in Hyannis, boat on both the north and south sides of the cape (hyannis is south side). Should also look at Barnstable harbor, (north side). Great launch ramp..(always go early) great fishing in the harbor and the admiral will love the beach on the barrier beach..(mine does). Pick a side of the cape based on the wind.. (south side picks up most afternoons, so plan ahead.)

So ditto you think if barstable was a launch point we could access all other area using the Barnstable launch as a central point? I hear that the southern area like BUzzards bay can be treacherous......We would love to see Cuttyhunk and the Elizabethan Islands but dont want to catch bad seas with the little one.

Definitely in order to see Cuttyhunk/E Islands, try to stay in Falmouth if you can. Everything's very easily accessible, because it's a quick shot straight across to the Vineyard, and then you can follow along the Vineyard coast, so you're never too far from land.

VHF Channels:
Edgartown- 74
Edgartown Launch- 68
Edgartown Harborside Inn Docking- VHF 10 or 508-627-4321 x117
Vineyard Haven- 68
VH Launch- 72
VH Black Dog Wharf- 72
Oak Bluffs- 71
Falmouth Harbor- 9 (then they will request that you switch over to 12)

In the ocean, always monitor channel 16. If you're in a harbor without a marked VHF number, monitor channel 9.

Hey Weave, Im Rick, were in West Springfield. Have you ever headed up to Sebago Lake in Maine. Great place, great boating, deep and warm water. we usually go up a couple of times a summer. Huge Lake with an Island (Frye Island), you can tie up, go have a burger, dinner or ice cream. You can also take the Songo river from the north end of the lake, go thru the Songo Lock (the oldest manually operated lock in the US I believe, this puts you into Brandy pond, (not really a pond) and from there boat on up to Long Lake. The water is crystal clear, and in August the water temps are 70-78 degrees, great swimming.
