Calling all 360 DA owners

Hey, where the hell is everybody? Our thread has been inactive for over a month! I need some motivation to get me through the winter. I get that seasonal depression thing, kinda like eskimos w 1 hour of daylight!:smt009 Is anyone out there?

I'm here, reading various posts but don't have much to add. We have been going down to our boat the last few weekends and just hanging out, having dinner, watching TV, not going anywhere. Too cold and wet. I start up the engines every weekend just to warm them up, keep the oil flowing, etc. We've started a new wish list for the spring & summer - Solaire IR grilles, replace carpet or install Nuteak, a real dinghy cover (used an $8 tarp with bungee cords this winter) etc. Looking forward to getting back out cruising, but have also enjoyed not spending $$$$ on fuel.

Sweet. I also have been making a list. I already replaced my carpet, and now I am working on my helm seat. Three screws sheared off in the riser, so the seat wobbles terribly. I was able to get it off the boat and have it on the pool table. I dont want to ruin the threads so Im taking my time. Not that I dont have a lot of it, with us expecting 2 feet of snow today!:smt089 Still trying to figure out what Im going to do about underwater lights. I was hoping to score some on Ebay, but no luck so far.

Checking with the 360 Owners.

Has anyone cruised between 8-10 knots with the 8.1's
If so does it hurt the motors, and what was the fuel used.

I've cruised in that range with no engine problems. hard to say on fuel consumption, due to different weather conditions on each occassion. I find that she has a sweet spot at 17-18 mph.

Q? My GPS shows a different speed than my analog gauge. Capt. Dan T. told me it is probably the sensor got damaged when they pulled me out. I'm seeing a 7-8 mph difference. What's the top speed you have seen with the 8.1 Mercs?

i just did a quick check of the "mini log book" I have at home. The last time I ran at WOT and recorded information was late May 2010 with approx 3/4 full tanks and 2 people on board. WOT was 4510 RPM port and 4480 RM starboard, speed 33.4 MPH.

I cruised in that range for about 30 hours in total on the Erie Canal this summer. I think the RPMs were between 1200 and 1500 (don't have my log book with me). Fuel consumption was about 6gph I think.

No problems with the 8.1s at all. It is a nice, economical way to travel.

If you want more info though, ask sferguson727 - he has a 340DA with 8.1s, and did a long trip up Lake Michigan at idle speed last summer.

I have a bunch of pics that I have shot under various conditions at various speeds to use as reference going forward.
8-10 knots is not very efficient in our hulls, and it won't "hurt" your motors, but they are definitely working. I get better mpg at 3450 rpm cruise.
By backing down to 6.5 or 7 knts, you can almost cut your fuel burn in half, (and the motors are not working up a sweat) It takes a lot of throttle to make the difference between 6.5 and 8 knts because of all the water you are pushing.

8 knots +/- .63 nmpg/ .73 smpg

6.5 knts+/- 1.2 nmpg / 1.4 smpg

Hope this helps

Take care

35 to 37 mph at 4800 RPM (too much RPM) for us
It always turned a little over spec, but after putting on the new manifolds last season, it picked up another 100 rpm consistantly over the summer, so prop scan talked me into another inch of pitch...we'll see how that goes, they're down in the basement waiting to go back on.

Thanks to all who responded.
This answers my questions
I plan on making several small trips to gauge my fuel consumption before making the long ones.

Thanks for the replies. Im going to get that thru hull speed sensor replaced and see if that was the issue. Capt. Dan T told me they are pretty inexpensive, and easy to replace.

I just found the "calling all 360 DA Owners' thread' and wanted to shout out to my fellow 360 counterparts. Mine is a 2003 360 DA 8.1 Horizons, bow thruster, & DTS (Digital Throttle & Shift). Love the boat and can't wait until Spring!

Welcome to the site. I cant wait until spring, either. Where do you keep your boat at LOTO? How long have you had it? The 360DA's are great size boats. We boat on Table Rock, so we are not too far from LOTO.

Hi, we recently purchased an 03', 360 with 240 hours. The boat is in San Diego. The members on this site were very helpful during the buying process and had some good tips on engine items to check particular to this boat re saltwater corrosion (exhaust manifold, risers, etc). Anyway, we did a full engine inspection, haul out, and sea trial and only some minor items were found. The previous owner didnt pony up much cash to resolve these, however we figured we were getting a good deal, so we proceeded and will get the keys today. Sleepover tonight with the kids! Look forward to talking to everyone re 360's in the future. Bill in San Diego, CA.

Welcome Bill,

I actually need your help. I have been trying to find another 360 locally with the camper top that you have. When I purchased my boat, the previous owner gave me the canvas, but not the hardware or framing. Would you be able to take some pics of your camper hardware and mounting locations? I would greatly appreciate it, as i am going to try and find someone to reproduce the hardware. Best wishes for a hot summer and calm waters!
