I thought it might be interesting to see how many of us will keep what we already have or buy another boat in the next year or maybe get out of boating entirely.

Let's see how this shakes out.

I had planned on upgrading but I am amazed at brokers/dealer not wanting to make even a half way respectable offer/deal. They all think that what you have is worth $.0.20 on the dollar while their clients/their boat is worth full price or more. I guess making no commission is better than making a little commission, I just don't get it.

I plan on keeping what I have, and buying a used fishing boat.

I just bought my 290DA this year, and finally got it the way I want it. Time to enjoy it for another year before that "twofootitis" returns!!!!!

Voted "no"...for now. We are in boating for the long haul and realize our boat (albeit fantastic) will not be our "forever" boat. My choice is to make one big move up to a newer trawler eventually, my wife says we should be shooting for a 48 as the "next boat". For now, we're only dreaming...

Voted no, not looking to upgrade, very pleased with our current boat and situation.

Nice boat Sean! Love the pic. You a lighting designer?

I plan on keeping mine as well as I bought it at the low end of depreciation curve. Most people who see my boat think it is a newer model. I put a lot of elbow grease into keeping it looking like it deserves.

Keeper!

Voted yes. This is our first boat and we love the lifestyle. Although the upgrade may not happen in the next year, it may happen soon after - baby on the way. Looking to go 280 - 310.

The admiral and I are looking to trade up to a 26-27 foot sundancer. We can't wait to spend the weekend on board!!!!! :smt038

I just purchased my first boat this past August. Paid $31K for a 2000 270 DA and that included the trailer, which I subsequently sold for $2,700. No AC or windlass though. Thought I'd put the price out there as a reference for ya'll.

I'll keep this for a few years and pay it off first before I move up. I'll probably move up to a 30 as my kids get older, currently they are 4 (twins) and 6.

Non of my business, but on lake MI, with your size family, my recommendation is that you go a little bigger in your next move.

I have my 1996 270 where I want her, so it will be at least 2 years before I start looking to upgrade to a 2 engine vessel.

I'm tempted to upgrade to something I can spend my time off on, despite having a very roomy campertop the current boat just isn't really that condusive to staying aboard for a few days at a time. I recently moved to a new position at work which gives me a four day weekened every fifth week, add in enough senority to get all my vacation time in the summer and I'll have tons of time to cruise.

I have tons of different options I'm considering, from a Macgregor 26 blowboat to a Suntracker party cruiser to any given run of the mill cuddy boat, but no matter what I decide I'll be letting someone else eat the depreciation and buying used!

As I say in my sig...looking for the 45~46DA....but timing with my business is the key. Right now...survival is the name of the game. We have been hit hard here in Florida with building. I am going to need the recreational outlet again when things turn around.

Just bought the 400DA late this summer - we love the boat and the room / comfort it offers.I think that is the end of 2 ft itis for a long time.

Just bought my first Sea Ray this spring. Bad case of fourteenfootitis! Given the amount invested in repairs, mods and upgrades, I'll have to keep this one for a while.

One thing is for sure though, I will never, ever, ever buy new again, neverever. The depreciation hit you take is just ludicrous.

I'm with you on this statement! I can't imagine your pain. I'd been swapping around different used boats trying to figure out my best fit. Usually I favored walkaround style fishing boats. I wanted to try these cruisers and dang if I didn't buy new only to get stuck because of the depriciation hit along with this economy. Now I'll have to sit tight till...whatever happens. Oh well, live and learn.
