Buying a NEW or USED boat in the next 12 months?

Will you buy new or used in the next 12 months or get out of boating entirely?

Nice boat Sean! Love the pic. You a lighting designer?

I plan on keeping mine as well as I bought it at the low end of depreciation curve. Most people who see my boat think it is a newer model. I put a lot of elbow grease into keeping it looking like it deserves.

Keeper!

Thanks - your too.
No lighting, I am a project manager for structural and plate steel fabrication.

I am very pleased with my current boat though my historical pattern is to always think about the next one.

The current market is tempting, but I hope I can control myself.

Just a thought on buying new... I will close on a '06 290 Sundancer (168 hrs) that I am paying $60k for. The owner, who is the original owner, owes $100k on it. He will be cutting a check for $40k to get out of it. However, to his credit, he is trading to a used 40 something foot SeaRay that I was told was worth $500k before the market crashed and he is paying around $300k for it. Looks like he got a better deal than I did!

Looks like I'm getting out of boating for awhile at least. Being a builder in this economy sucks but, at least the recession is over!! WAFJ...

I just listed the ole 340 last week at a giveaway price.... :smt089

I'm keeping mine for a few years anyway. I just got it and I plan to completely refit it.

We have had a rough year.... Better then some worse then others, but we love boating and I love our boat. It still is kind of surreal.... I can't believe some days that this magnificent beauty is ours....

And THAT is when to know you have the right boat!

Beautiful boat, by the way...

Sorry to hear that Newb. Hope things work out for you.

Just bought the 400DA late this summer - we love the boat and the room / comfort it offers.I think that is the end of 2 ft itis for a long time.

Beautiful boat; friends of mine bought a 98 400 earlier this year and we have enjoyed it just as much as they have.

Our boat is now ten years old, and we have had it for five. We have often thought of upgrading to something larger in a sedan bridge, especially when we are cruising out of town. However, this past spring, we spent a month on the boat, and did just fine. The extra living space would be welcomed, but not worth the extra cost. As I read the threads from owners of older Searays, I am glad that these boats hold up so well for so long. We will be holding on to ours and taking good care of it.

We are making offers and are hoping to land a 2002 Dancer 320 in the next week or two. Wish me luck!

And no ad here?

He probably doesn't want to hear or read about how he's asking for too much with his selling price and the loads of advice given to try to steal or low ball his boat.....I wouldn't advertise here for the same reason :smt021. (no offense Jim)

Actually, I just don't really see getting much exposure through CSR. Now, if a listing here included a yachtworld listing I'd be all over it...

Sorry to hear that Newb. Hope things work out for you.

It's not really that bad, yet. I'm just pessimistic on where the housing market will be in the next couple of years so I'm simply planning ahead. I don't at all expect it to sell this winter and with all I'm working on business wise, I'm likely to change my mind come spring, who knows.

I'm going V-Drives to handle rough water and docking better.

As with all things, I'm keeping ours until I take a dirt nap (I still have my very first motorcycle from when I was 17). But eventually we plan on getting a 35'-40' in the mid to late 80s vintage as I dig their lines. Sean's 39' is pretty much what I would like to have (lucky bastard!), but the woman wants a dual helm model. Our 26' is about as big as we can tow, but I would like a big SOB in the marina 3 miles from the house that we can take all over the Great Lakes in dual-engined confidence and wide-beamed comfort.

If our toys were not paid for I would be selling or looking to get out from under the payment. :wow: But since they are paid for I have no intention of getting rid of them. I may just may not get to run out as often as I would like. :smt009

My business is tied to the construction industry and manufacturing, so when that goes down, so do I. :smt009
