Building a swim platform

I'd spend more on flexiteek than the whole rest of the platform! I wonder how that would look with all the real teak

Don't forget about http://www.seadek.com/. I have it on my swim platform and I love it! If you actually plan on using your platform, I can't think of anything that feels better under foot. In addition to an almost infinite variety of colors and textures, they make a faux teak that I put on mine.

How durable is the seadek? I'm hard on things. :) How is it priced?
It's made out of the same stuff your flip flops are made out of. Expanded, closed cell EVA foam. It's not as durable as teak obviously but after one season mine looks good. I would say it faded just a bit relative to the day I put it on. Also, I spilled some used engine oil omit and didn't notice it until the next day. I scrubbed it with Simple Green and removed about 95% of the stain. There is still a slight shadow but that disapears as soon as the platform get wet. They give it a life of 5-7 years if exposed to the elements. I would estimate the cost at probably $6-700. The best thing to do is call them. They'll send out some samples for free. Make sure you ask for them to send a sample of the faux teak.

It's far from a work of art, but it's getting better. It might snow tomorrow, which means I'll have to donate at least a day this weekend to snowmobiling. If not, I'd like to have all the rough glass work done by the end of the weekend. I just layed a coat of resin on the bottom side to seal it up. Next is the cloth. I really like the looks of the faux teak, but occasionally I'll put a jet ski on the swimboard, and I don't know how it would respond to that. I haven't been 100% satisfied with any of the non-skid options I've seen.

Thanks all for the advice.

Regarding the jetski, maybe you could make some hard points that are integrated into the platform. Not sure how you are getting the jetski on or off the platform but if you are using a davit, I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to do. But to answer your question, if you're sliding the jetski in and off the platform, that would be very hard on SEADEK and would probably not hold up very well.

I love your project. Very cool. Please keep posting pics. I think how you cover it is up to you. The seadek is great, the flextek is way too hot, the carpet is a great option, I don't know if I would simply paint it though, unless your trying to show off your glassing skills.

Nicely finished snap in carpet that matches your cockpit would look great and be fairly reasonable to have made I would think.

Carpet looks good, but in our environment (river), it doesn't hold up. Our water is too dirty! At least if it's painted it will look more like factory. If I do a texture properly, it will look good.

wow, you have done such a great job so far. so are you going to take orders when you're done? I'm in...

Thanks! I've learned I don't want ot do it again. A mould would make it so much easier!

LOL, I figured you'd say that... I'll just keep watching you and tackle it myself when i finally get ready... thanks for all of the insight...

Well, if you ever want to know what I've done, and can't tell from the pics, let me know.
