bringing a potbelly pig on boat

Could you make a ramp with carpet that would attach to the gunwale cap and extend directly to shore? It could be made as a two piece affair that would allow it to be modified for dock useage and also for beach boarding. A friend made one for his bulldog that weighs about 100 lbs. He made his out of aluminum diamond plate with indoor/outdoor carpeting glued to it.

Holy cow, this thread is jumpin. I feel guilty that I feed pig dog pig tails.

What do you get when you cross a pig and Nancy Pelosi?
Nothing, there's just some things a pig won't do!!:smt009

I'm eating lentil soup with bacon... is that ok?

Was looking for advice and help to keep our pet and ourselves safe on our boat. Not sure how that is even funny stuff to be totally honest. Was networking for some ideas. If this would of been for a dog, or a handicapped person it would of been just as funny I guess? BUT on the upside we have gotten some good serious advice, which we are grateful for. Also a Pot Belly Pig is not a barnyard animal. They have been domesticated over the years to be house pets, for many reasons.

Yes they are called Hoyer lift and we are looking at portable ones as well. It will be a manual devices and something we can make so it can be sturdy and compact. Thanks.

What i think i might do is modify a deer hoist that mounts to a truck hitch, it should extend far enough over side[will have to design a removeable mount] it has a hand crank [trailer winch] and buy a harness for him. it will be one of my winter boat projects along with refinishing my teak that i took of of the boat.thanks for the comments, some good, alot bad. It would be nice if people had nothing decent to say they would keep there smart a-- comments to themselves....but oh well. thanks again to the nice boaters out there

As your problem is extremely unoink, not everybody is going to be able to come up with a solution that will satisfy your needs. The non-contributors were just having some harmless fun. Over the winter you will see that the comedic sector of our membership will not miss a chance to entertain themselves and others when the opportunity arises. Lighten up ... it's going to be a long winter.

If I had a heavy large pet dog that had hip problems that I always took boating with the family and we requested the same assistance from our membership that you have asked for, I just know that there will be some serious and comedic replies. You have to be thin skinned to survive around here folks. In the end, we are all boaters that are there for each other.

You are more than aware that your situation is unusual so why not just sit back and glean the info that you deem beneficial to your original request and grin and bear the rest. The more you resist ... the bigger the target you will be.

Merry Christmas, Ken

#1 they are hypoallergenic. No fur, nor dander for people who are allergic to cats and dogs. #2. They are extremely smart. Higher on the totem pole for intelligence then dogs or cats. #3. They are very clean animals. #5 all though they are not smaller then a cat or your mini breeds of dogs, a properly taken care of pig, adult male will not go over the 125 pound mark. There are a great many breeds of dogs that reach that and by pass that.

Obama got off the helicopter in front of The White House carrying a piglet
under each arm. The Marine guard snapped to attention, saluted and
said: "Nice pigs, sir." The President replied: "These are not pigs. These
are authentic Arkansas Razorback Hogs. I got one for Hillary Clinton, and I
got one for Nancy Pelosi." The Marine again snapped to attention, salutes
and said, "Excellent trade, sir."

OK- now I'll throw the B.S. Flag! I don't care how much you love your pig you can't compare it to a handicapped person. :smt101

Lacook,
I personally felt sorry for all the jokes about your pet pig but after your statement about handicapped people I have to say they can cook the pig for all I care.:smt013 We have a daughter with disabilities and find it very difficult to get her on and off the boat at times so when you brought up the subject it was a good question but for you to involve disabled HUMAN BEINGS was uncalled for.:smt021

Figures it takes a thread about a barnyard animal to drag Spookay out from hiding. Good to hear from you again, where have you been?

I'm well.. You know with all the Parrots, Mules, Goats, Horses, Donkeys, Cats, Dogs, Geese, Turkeys and Chickens. I have been kinda bizzy. and it's been kinda cold lately. But all in all I'm well.

If the pot belly pig is so important to be on the boat, what about looking into a different style boat that could accomodate your needs........A pontoon boat for example would be great fit......Seems you spend most of the time at the beach anyways.......How about a boat with a walkthrough.......Just thinking out loud

Hello,I have a potbelly pig that is our pet and boatmate, but he has grown to heavy to lift on the boat. I was thinking of making a hoist device to lift him up when we are on an island for our weekend camping events.he is potty trained and very well mannered and gets along great with our dogs.any ideas on a lift?,a doggy step will not work because he has hoofs.any help greatly appreciated :smt001
I don't understand. You mean he might slip off the edge of a step? If that's the case couldn't you put a raised cleat at the nose of each step? Is your pig physically challenged? Mountain goats have hoofs and look what they can do. Have you considered agility classes? Some pre-season training, alot of atta-boys and hugs and the little ham might surprise you. Cut a piggy door in the transom maybe.
