Got to the boat yesterday and we were a bit surprised that the Lake water looked clear even though we just had three inches of rain. After taking the boat out though, we didn't get very far until the water turned red (darn red southern clay) from runoff comming from a tributary that empties into the lake. I mean this water was just plain ugly and nasty looking. So we turn around and head the other way on the lake and pretty soon we run into more red water comming from another tributary.

As it turns out there was only a small section of the lake that was clear. Today I suspect the whole lake will be red. I have seen ugly brown water before but you haven't lived until you have seen ugly red water and boated in it. :smt021 :smt021

Quit your whining Dave. :smt089 I boat in the Muddy Chattahoochee all the time and that stuff is harder to get off than a little red wine from the lake. :smt043

I just stay out of the South end of the Lake since all our water flows to the north around here

At least I made a "patriotic statement" on the lake yesterday.....................with the red water and with my blue and white 260DA, I had all the colors of the flag covered just fine!

Dave, I splashed the boat today. I don't like the red water either. It gets pretty thick as you run north. The water is up so high from the rain that the little island at seven oaks is underwater. Some boy scout has done his eagle project there and left a trash can (nice) and some signs that say " leave no evidence you were ever here."
I tried to sneek a peek at your ride, are you slipped on the buster boyd ramp side of the slips about half way down? Boy your boat looks nicer than in the pictures. I put in at big allison creek, and did the T-Bonz thing. Man the wind is howling today. Made it hard to keep the trim right.

Yep........our boat faces T-bones and the Buster Boyd ramp. It's the only Blue Hull 260DA at the Marina right now.

I know what you mean about the wind. It was howling so bad that between that and the red water there was no way we were going to head out today. Is Big Allison clear? It seems to escape the red water syndrome pretty well.

I can see the wind keeping you in but the color of the water? If that were the case we would never boat in NJ.

I hear ya.................our water may be red, but at least it doesn't glow in the dark like it does in Jersey. :smt043 :smt043

Big Allison is red to. The main channel south of the bridge is tinted, but the farther south you go it gets clearer untill you turn up in the allison creeks. You'd think it would get worse the closer to the dam.

The Mississippi is pretty much all brown. At the confluence of the Miss and St Croix rivers you can see the clear water entering the brown making it look like a chocolate milk blender. The black river near La Crosse, WI is so dark in color that it looks like you are boating in a cup of coffee, not sure if its decaf

Wish you would have called me and told me that Dave :smt021 Paige and I had decided as long as the sun was out we were going today. Got through the no wake zone at the park and started out headind toward lake wylie marina and she looked at me like you have got to be kidding me. I did not care, we were going for a boat ride. The lake was nasty but it was ok heading out but coming back wow that was rough. The good news is we finally got the boat out. She fired right up and ran great. But I think we will wait until a better day to go out again. :smt043

Wesley..........Where did you put in? Across from the Marina at McDowell or down at Ebeneezer?

How crowded was it today?

We always put in at Copperhead Island. We were one of the few out there besides the occassional fishing boat.

Ok Wesley, You will not take it out in salt, but it's ok in mud

Sorry Wesley the devil made me say it  :smt043

No buyer is going to ask me has the boat ever been in muddy red water but has the boat ever been in salt water, that is a hole different ballgame :smt021 Plus I had an itch to get the boat out, we had not been out since November.

Good point

The only thing glowing in the gulf coast waters are the little sea critters. Crystal clear water.

It looked like it might become a nice day, but turned breezy later this evening. Supposed to be cold again in the morning. 29 degrees down here. :smt089
