Boating and Firearms

I got it...just busting balls. A typical word of support from over zealous gun owners is that a gun does no more harm than a knife or bat...that if you want to kill someone you can kill them with anything...which is true to a small degree, but not realistic.
.....and I am thinking your just another north eastern liberal.... whew

You are thinking wrong :smt001

I am all for guns and think every home should have one. The justifications, however, seem to vary greatly, as does the consequences and responsibilities of gun ownership.

I knew you couldn't stand that liberal tag...Looks like we agree on the gun issue after all.....

Best boat weapon I have found is a pistol grip 12 gauge with OO Buckshot. In Florida on the East coast I would not spend an overnight without one.

Yes always. Have never gone boating with out at least one

Be careful getting snagged by the National Park Service Police at Powell with a gun. They take a very tough line and can pretty much do what they want inside the park.

I just bought a 870 Marine Magnum 12GA. I'd never kept a gun on the boat until I started going to the Bahamas. I got stopped by the Coast Guard a few weeks ago and as always one of the first questions was "do you have a weapon"? It was a non issue and no hassle but I was very careful to have my wife and daughter keep their hands visable.

I had not shot a pump with buckshot for a while so I went to the range. Holy smokes, I forgot how lethal a 12GA with #4 is. Makes a 40S&W seem like a pop gun.

I just completed my concealed weapons permit application process. Should have my permit in about 15 days.

I'm almost done. Have the app and digital fingerprints. I've heard it takes 4 months!

I'm jealous. Up here it takes your whole life until you die. In other words, never. I wish it was so easy.

Its nice to live in a free state. I have my permit for Nevada, the requirements are similar so while I was at it I got my Utah & Florida (non resident) permits as well. Cost me a few bucks and and 2 extra sets of prints and photos, but well worth it. At last count I'm legal to carry in 33 states.

What does a guy like you do if your company transfers you to MA? Sell all your guns or does the state let you keep them with a license to carry here? At least it's not too difficult to get an FID, so I can defend my home with the Mossberg 500, but I sure would like to have a Glock for when I leave the home.

Things sure have changed...... The last time I checked, the Constitution did not require a permit to carry.... concealed or otherwise.

Something ain't right is it?

Here you can pack openly but have to have a permit to carry conceled. They're still arguing about whether you can take 'em into city council meetings, etc.

Heck, around here people are stil getting tickets for RHWI - riding horse while intoxicated...

The last I heard the state of FL was running behind a little. With Obama in , they currently have over 250,000 permits to handle and were running about 60-90 days until you get your permit. If you get it sooner, let me know.

I let mine expire when I moved from the town that issued it 15yrs ago. :smt021

There are many things in the constitution that are ignored.

The real problem is when they start "interpreting" it. When they ignore it, whatever they did usually gets ruled unconstitutional. When they "interpret" what it says, we end up with all kinds of crazy stuff.

Maybe we should make the ability to read and understand the English language a requirement for being a politician or Supreme Court judge.

Honestly I don't think I would go.....but the admiral doesn't like the cold, and that right there carries more weight than just about everything else. I got a job offer in Minnesota a few years back, the wife told me no way. She had previously told me she would follow me anywhere, so when I asked about the change of heart, she admitted that she would go, but I would wish she hadn't.

The COnstitution is a living document, meant to be interpreted, thus its magnificence.

You must understand that this is a document almost 300 years old (although such a tiny amount of time for a country) and interpretations must take into account the changing of times, again, its brilliance and forethought of the writers.

When our country was in its infancy, the public WAS the militia, thus why every citizen had a right to bear arms. I dont believe it specified anything about type...thats why a shotgun is still fine, but an automatic weapon is not.

Im kind of glad we have some guidelines for owning guns. It does keep most riff raff from running around with a concealed weapon that can be used when they are feeling a certain way.
