Boat Listing...

Now that I've transitioned from a twin engine wide beam to a single engine narrower beam, I notice how sensitive to weight changing the boat can be. With the addition of factory A/C and Vaccuflush option, both mounted on the port side, I notice that the boat lists a few inches to port at rest. This is something that was never a concern with the 300DA. It does bother me and in addition the bottom paint line is now about an inch below the water. With no way to shift any weight around it's clear that the only solution is to add some weight to the starboard side to balance it. It loks like 150# should be perfect. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you resolve it? I'm looking into obtaining some lead bricks, about 25# each, they are not cheap (about $50 per), but they give me the most weight per area. Any comments or ideas?

I thought about that, an extra battery can never hurt, but I need a bit more weight than that. I had my son who weighs 140# sit on the starboard side seat and the boat was perfectly level. Also no room for those water bladders.

One of those 3.0 KW westerbekes weigh in at 165. If your gonna ad weight you may as well have it do something for you. :smt001

2 group 31 optimas are about 60lbs a piece.... extra double 00 wiring.... and custom tray should about do it. Might as well put something usable in the boat.

Thanks guys, the generator is not an option due to the vaccuflush and holding tank occupying that area. As for the batteries, there are already 2 on the "high" side, so adding another, while there is room, would still leave me well short. Unless I reconfigure the two factory batteries and add two more in parallel. The fresh water tank is in the bow and on centerline so not much I can do there.

No Dave, it doesn't. Right now the holding tank is almost empty, which is a concern, because as the toilet is used, water from the centerline fresh tank will end up in the port side head holding tank amplifying the problem.

That's not good if it will be even worse when the holding tank is full. I would call Sea Ray and ask them about the problem. You would think they would have designed the various placement of items in the boat to compensate as much as possible for the side to side imbalance.

My 260 has a similar problem once the holding tank starts to fill up. It then tends to list a bit to starboard. My water tank is on the port side so that can offset it if it gets filled. But then the problem is just the opposite when the holding tank is empty and the water tank is full.

I guess I need to look into the engine compartment of the newer 240's... On the port side of mine the is nothing except a battery charger on the starboard side and to port the water heater, batteries, & trim pump are there and mine doesn't list all. I don't have a vacuflush so that would take up some room but that would still leave me with aprox. a 3'X3' open area on the starboard side.

Where did all the space go to on the newer ones???

What about putting some anchor chain in the bow anchor locker?
