Blue Angels - Anapolis, MD

You have no chance of getting a mooring. Where should you anchor? Just keep pushing up towards the Naval Academy as close as you can. Your own comfort level of being anchored in close proximity to other boats in a wake filled harbor will dictate just how close you get. I usually try to creep up the Naval Academy's eastern Seawall and get as close to the Severn as possible. This will get you closest to where the planes do their crossing manueuvers. You can also get very close to the planes by anchoring in the middle of the river further away from the academy but you'll be limited to pretty much straight and level flight at that part of the show. In all honesty there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

The burgers and dogs are purchased, the sausage and peppers are cut up and skewered... all we need now is good weather and hopefully an uneventful journey. We'll be leaving our marina at approx. 8:45am tomorrow morning and heading down to the Severen from Fairlee Creek. I'm guessing it's going to take me about 1hr to get down there. Having never attended this event, I'm hoping to get there before the real congestion starts. I guess we'll see when we get there. I'll monitor the VHF for anyone looking to raft up for the show. :smt038

The Blue Angels did not disappoint!

Jim was right about there not being a bad seat in the house. I thought we were "too far out" into the river, but we experienced several very close flyovers.

What a mad house! I loved it. We will be back for that one.

+1 on Festivus comments.

I don't have anything to compare it to, as this was our first "on-water" air show but WOW...really unbelievable experience. We originally thought the kids would love it, but my wife and I were right with them:smt038

Festivus we anchored just off your stern, but didn't realize you were there for about 20-30 minutes. (Don't ask me how I missed that big beautiful SB)

KDawg...don't know how you found us (like a needle in a haystack) but thanks for stopping by. We'll probably be in your back yard soon.

I'm glad you guys had a good time. I thought about you yesterday morning... right up until they stuck the IV in me (the last two of my "wisdom" teeth came out, yesterday). Hopefully I can make it next year.

Was it real hot down there? Anyone get any pictures or video?

Stupid work reared its ugly head and my day off got cancelled. :smt013 :smt013 :smt013

BUT... It paid off nicely.

I hope the Angels fly again next year.

I have to sit down and review the pics and video we took to edit out the clear blue sky shots  I found out rather quickly how difficult is was going to be to get any pictures of something moving that fast and that low.:smt101

Here's a few I took with my iPhone.

Tough to see, but 2/4 are inverted at about 400mph

Second year in a row for the trip to the Blue Angels. And just as last year what a treat!!!
Perfect weather and a great show with several directly overhead fly overs. WOOO HOOO!!
Only bad experience were the many in considerate morons throwing big wakes in the middle of a thousand anchored and rafted boats. We will definitely be back next year.
No Thanks Dad, glad we were able to track you down and say hi, give me a shout next time your down in our area.
