We have already paid for our slips two months ago so hopefully we will be slipped at the floating docks. We really like all the commotion at the dock and the whole resort-type atmosphere. I can't wait until Thursday morning - 6:30 am departure from Bridgeport!Back a few days ago..only got to spend a week on the Block this year
We hooked it the whole time in a five boat raft near dingy beach in six ft. of water.
Its the best way to enjoy the place. I dont like to be stuffed into Champs and cant swim off the boat in any marina. Give it a try if the moorings are full

We left Bridgeport around 6:30 am. going with the tide. The marine forecast said 2-3 footers, wind at 20-25 from the East, so once we started bouncing on rollers, we headed directly to Long island to hopefully have the Island block the wind. Wind now seems to change to Northeast and it's worse! Rollers now start white capping and high wind and rain make it miserable at 13-15 mph max. My friend is now telling me that at this rate his boat won't last to Montauk. As you know the only thing between Port Jefferson and Montauk is Mattatuck - so I suggest we fill up there. After this, we head to Montauk and it seemed better for about 1 hr as we were up to 18-20 mph. We then went through Plum gut and whola - 5 footers all over again the whole way to Montauk. Marine forecast called for calmer seas in the afternoon, but earlier we thought it said getting worse in the afternoon. So now we fill up/top off again at Montauk and head to Block. Once again back to 15 mph with a lot of big (to me) rollers in the Atlantic. We pulled into the channel at New harbor and I was so happy to be in flat water, THEN the wind started blowing 25. The Champlain's guys even stopped bringing in boats until the wind slowed down. We circled for about 1 hour in front of Champlains. Finally we got the go ahead and got our floating dock - I think the best two slips there! I think it was about 4:30 -5:00 pm before I was settled. Then, mass alcohol consumption began . The way home was nice, 1 1/2 hours to Montauk get fuel and be on the way, then less than three hours back to Bridgeport, so the whole trip was 4 1/2 hours of flat seas and blue sky .Holy cow, 8 hours? were there big rollers on the way there? I like big rollers. mmmmm.
We came home Sunday afternoon. That pic was around 4pm. I am a member at Fayerweather YC also. Are you?Boatrboy,
When did you come back from Block Island? I haven't seen the LIS that calm in a while. Also, is the flag on your bow that of the Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport?
