Black water tank empties itself while running boat on plane

Based on going to Alaska you should have the discharge valve closed and tied shut. We need to be 3 miles off land to pump out. No idea what Florida requires. Big fine we have been told by other boaters for non compliance.

Close your overboard discharge thru hull.
If open you can cause a vacuum when on plane and you have witnessed the result. Are you aware that that valve should be locked in the closed position or you are subject to a fine?

Why do so many people on here insist on being experts on the regulations...I didn;t ask about regulations...I know the regulations. I was 25 miles offshore.

The original post you now deleted stated that you found your holding tank empty multiple times after different trips.
I assumed you home port was not 25 miles offshore.

Why do some peoples panties get in a bunch here.

He did not claim to be an expert.
He asked if you were aware of the reg.
He stated what could cause the event.

It takes 3 hours to get 25 miles off shore when you are not on plane. I don't buy that. It doesn't require an expert to know the discharge valve needs to be shut and tied. That's basic boating.

Sooo if I hang off the side of my boat and poop or pee right into the water is that considered illegal over board discharge? I mean I'm not am expert but I don't think that counts and if you do that you will never need to open your seacock to dump your dump s because your tank will never fill! Problem solved!

Sorry I had to. I'll b on my way now

I would think so because it w old be no different than having a head that pumped straight out, and that is against the regulation.

Hey if you are in Canadian waters and even in a marina, let it fly...... Now I don't even think about doing it in a marina but once outside the breakwater hit the switch.....

Who regulates, the birds, and seals, dolphins etc?

Its law here to close the tank, 2Nm off shore to dump it....Most pump out stations dont work.

Ok now what if I just jump in the water doing the no pants dance or in my "birthday suit" and Just let it flow with say my hands on the swim platform. Since I'm touching the boat does it mean im discharging overboard? Btw I hear if u poop in the water you don't have to wipe

I wonder what the reaction would be if someone pulled up next to you while you were swimming at the beach or even 2 miles off shore and emptied their black water tank. Actually, I don't have to guess, I already know the answer to that one...which makes me wonder why people have a hard time following the rules.

Considering you dont use your holding tank........I gather guests have to jump in and let it go naturally whilst hanging onto the swim platform?

Wow, that's pretty offensive to read so I'll assume it was a joke.

We're all joking around. No harm ment. We all love our waters and try our best to keep it clean so or family and ourselves can swim and enjoy it.

Actually in Sydney, and I believe Vancouver, maybe even Los Angeles, we pump the whole population of the city's effluent, 2nm out to sea and let it go.......so what difference is a holding tank going to make!

And Scott, if your concerned about swimming 2nm off of of our coast in about 100m of water, with the current population of Great Whites we have........then.
Personally those of us that take a dip that far out, believe me, we hit the water and walk on the top of it so quickly back into the boat, s#### wouldn't stick

That's why Australia has so many sharks

NYC used to dump their sluge barges 2km off the cost... It would end up the NJ beaches... Now they go out 50km off the cost. Remember the solution to polution is dilution...
