Bimini Trip June 22-26

I'm not a local but with BarryG's help we figured a lot of stuff out on our first go.

Launch your boat at Harbortown Marina and idle over to Bahia Mar. They will watch your truck and trailer for $8/night. Make sure you retrieve your boat at mid to high tide or you may not get out at their landings.

Wish I could go with you guys. My Bimini Sands trip report from Memorial Day is coming soon.:smt038

Kendall

Maybe you can go on our trip July 27!

Thanks for all the info, kendal, randy and barry!! I'm "STOKED" about our upcoming trip!!!!

Alright everybody, two weeks from departure day!!!!!!! Everyone ready for Bimini???

We're not 100% ready just yet. I always have an ongoing list of things that need to be done and now is no exception. Nothing big, just misc stuff that needs to be done. How about you Lance, are you set?
Ray - genny ready?
Barry - how about you?
Chad - riding over with somebody?
Larry - anything on your list?

Time to start looking at the forecast....
14 day weather forecast - http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/miami/ext
1 week wind and wave forecast - http://passageweather.com/
180 hour NOAA animated wave prediction - http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/viewer.shtml?-US_keywest-

Like you Randy, last minute stuff goin' on, just went and got a second new spare tire for the trailer, boat fueled up, truck too, wife just made the beds, hummmmm, missing something already.... BEER!! Ok I'm almost ready........ LOL:thumbsup:

I have a lot to do and still need to pull the boat out of the water... Was going to do that before this weekend, but the tropics seem so unstable that I'm waiting to see the forcast for next week.. Need to inspect the running gear and possibly pull the props, touch up the bottom paint, compound and wax the hull and possibly wrap it with a new Guy Harvey design I've been working on... As well as replace the VHF radio, the shower sump system (for the 3rd time), and pick up a few spare parts to bring along in case.. Oh and add about 130 gallons of gas to fill up...

Oh no! Winds 20 mph from the east! How will that be?

20mph winds are 20mph winds regardess of the direction. Be it they are traveling in open waters it may be a long wet and bumpy ride? Still two weeks out though so as you know Florida weather changes daily.

Yup, weather is crazy! For the last entire year the water has been rough every time we have gone out. And the wind is blowing hard here every day making Lake Monroe white cap and looking like the ocean! I had a friend tell me that 20 mph winds from the east , north east really churned up the stream for the crossing in a 280:huh:

Planning and looking forward to the trip to Bimini, but might be time to think of a plan B.. Randy, Ray, any thoughts about the Keys in case the seas are not cooperating? I don't want to be fighting 6-8 with some 10 footers like last year...If I can't get on plane, I think Adam and I would rather stay on the inside and head down towards the keys.. Used 132 gallons just going over, plus the running to Sapona and Honeymoon Harbor, and if its the same this year now at $6.20/gallon as of 2 weeks ago, ouch... that's going to be about $900.00 going over and if seas flatten out for the trip home, about 60- 80 gallons filling up back home..

Tampa Bay can get nasty with N to NE winds, especially 20mph!

Better chance now, even w/some bad wind, then waiting for later in the year trying to dodge possible hurricanes......... been there, done that!!:smt043:lol:

This wise man speaks the truth! A plan B is a must. Miami and the Keys sound like fun if the weather does not cooperate.

I'm also for a plan B if the weather doesn't look good, high fuel prices not stoppin' this "CRACKER" though....... LOL:grin:

10-4 Bucit!! My trailering round trip should be around that alone.... LOL Money well spent......... I think????:wow:

Always good to have a Plan B. Haven't thought about it yet but the time is here.

I'm not too concerned about the extended forecast. Heck, NOAA can't get it right 5 days ahead let alone 14. I'll start really looking at things seriously about 5 days prior. Actually, I like that the 14 day forecast is bad. No one can see that far out so there is a 90% chance it will be wrong.

:smt043I'm w/you Randy!! My Dad always said the reason the weatherman can't forcast the weather right was that "He didn't have a window in his office"!! LMAO.............Soooooo True!!!!

It's already changed. The 14 day forecast for 6/22 is now 11 MPH from the SE (perfect) and 30% chance or rain.

So Lance - you said you have another couple joining you on the trip? Any kids coming?
