Biggest sea ray trailerable

Do you have brakes on every axle? I tow with a triple axle and I totally can feel the surge brakes working. They help dramatically. Maybe you need to rebleed yours and also check the actuator is sliding/greased ok.

Doug

Feels great to have brakes on all three! I have electric over hydraulic on all three axels and they stop the truck. That is the best available for big boat hauling. MM

I am in the process of getting a larger trailer since the dealer went by the SR website on the weight of the boat. I am GROSSly overloaded! My new trailer will have electric over hydraulic Kodiacs for sure!!

Diesel is for sure the the way to go! I drive mine like a sports car...lol

I just put new Kodiak disc brakes on my triple axle trailer for my 280DA this past spring. But I just replaced the surge coupler on it with the same Titan unit. Didn't know anything about electric-over-hydraulic. Great. So what's that take, a new coupler?

I can tell my brakes work well, too. I can especially tell they are working when sometimes they decided to go against what my truck is doing and I get into this oscillating push/pull of the trailer that's quite annoying!

I'm surprised a Denali can tow an '02 300DA! I would think a diesel is a requirement, let along a heavy-duty truck...?

Well, as you are aware, it's certainly not rated for it. We put airbags on the rear to keep the back end up and not kill the springs and Chris had a different hitch put on (it's heavy duty so he wouldn't break something). It's a triple axle aluminum I-beam trailer and designed with most weight over the axles instead of on the tongue.
And like I think I said, we go max 35mph (mostly around 30) early in the morning or in evening (non rush hour..). And we don't go far. We go slow to make sure we can stop in time for anything, and not very far or fast just because it's heavy for the truck. From a motor and transmission standpoint, Chris didn't seem too worried for the short trip and it doesn't really seem to suffer at all. It's a pretty powerful truck, although it's also a bit plush..

He'll not take it on the interstate or go fast for safety concerns. For the 50 mile trip from Winnepasauke to Newberg we hired someone to pull it to the hudson and from there I piloted home while Chris took the empty trailer.

First, make sure you have correct master cylinder, there are different ones for drum versus disc and they physically interchange. I believe the drum units have a restricter valve built in where the disc master cylinders are free flowing. This is because drum brakes have springs to pull the shoes back and disc brakes do not. With the incorrect master cylinder your disc brakes won't release properly. Second, Titan units use one or two small shock absorbers to prevent what you are experiencing. Make sure they are working. What is the load rating on your coupler, is it rated for the weight of your boat?

You don't specify what year but a 1994 370 has a 12'4" beam, 4 feet over the legal trailer-able limit. Getting a wide load permit (not to mention the headaches in trying to tow something that wide) would probably not be feasible. I regularly tow a 1990 270 with a 9' beam. However the stern isn't that wide and from behind doesn't look over the limit. So far, so good.

I also have a 1990 270. This is the largest I will go for towing everywere. Maybe a little bigger if it was just once a year trip to a slip.

I tried to rotate the picture but it posted the code instead of the pic. Oh well.

Yes on all that. All disc brakes are brand new Kodiak's. Coupler unit is a Titan for disc brakes. You're right, the disc units are free flowing. My Titan unit has a pair of shock absorbers within it (I know because I took the old one apart to see how it all worked). It's not under-damped, it just takes a few oscillations of decreasing frequency to get it all settled out.

It takes an electric master cylinder and battery powered emergency stop system. About a $1000 bucks. My surge coupler was welded shut rather than by one as you do not need any part of it. I suppose it would look cleaner without it and a sleek new coupler, but it is a trailer. MM
