Please help me to understand how the Central Vac operates. Mine has been giving me problems and I need to know how its supposed to work to know what might need fixing.

When I switch on the "outlets" at the 110V panel, the vacuum turns on for about 2 seconds and then shuts itself off. I assume that is normal. However, if I then insert the hose to vacuum, should it automatically start sucking? Mine won't do so unless I switch the outlets off, then insert the hose and switch the outlets back on. Even then sometimes it doesn't come on requiring me to then manually turn the system on at the switch on the canister.

I think the outlet contacts/wiring may be going bad, but again, how is it supposed to work properly?

It certainly should not start unless the hose is inserted into the valve so the contacts would be the first place to look.

ours comes on and off when the outlets are turned on.. Like yours... We have to wiggle the nozzle to get it to work sometimes... It probably a ground problem...

So if the outlets switch is already on and you insert the vacuum hose, does the vacuum automatically start? Or do you you have to turn the outlets switch off and then back on again?

Mine starts up for two seconds when powering up 120v AC panel from zero state, then turns on when hose is inserted into outlet.

it starts, but sometimes I have to wiggle the hose... I think it is the switch...
