Automatic Fenders

There is a 340 Sundancer in our shed that has them. They said they really like them and they work well.

Interesting... I know wifey would approve. Kind of solves two issues as if mounted properly it stores the fender in mid air out of the way. I like it as it says it works with 10" x 24" fenders which are a bitch for my wife to move. I might just order a set of these.

Im not sure I would add the " after a few drinks " comment on your promotional video.

Its a good idea and I like it but What about boats that don't have bow rails?

I laughed at the "after a few drinks" also.
I'm wondering if the $275 is for one, or two.
It says in the box comes a starboard one and a port one, then lower on the page it says $275 per automatic fender.

It won't handle the fenders we use but it's a great idea. My wife would love to have them on Beachcomber.

What she would REALLY love to have would be an automatic deallybobber that would tie us to the bollard when we enter one of the locks. She does a great job but at times has balance issues and doesn't like being on the side walkway.

I've told her if she learns how to bring the boat to the bollard without crashing I'll do the tie up. Thus far she's not on board with that program.

I just leave 5 fenders attached horizontally to my dock all year round. Never have to deploy or retrieve fenders unless rafting or transient docking which require special attention anyway based on who you are rafting with or the transient slip height.

maybe we can get a deal. Says $275 for a pair. If we get a bunch of us let see if we can get a better price. I am in for a set...what the heck.

If the price is right, I'm in.

Neat idea, but not for us. Pretty funny...sounded to me like she said "Silicone" Valley instead of Silicon Valley. Or maybe that's a different place where there's a lot of silicone (LA?)!

Not doing it for me. A Bayliner with self deploying fenders - is this a James Bond movie? Does it have self tying lines too?

"You handle the wine, we'll handle the fenders"

Scratches head...

Looks like the set of 1 port and 1 starboard is $550. I like that it stores the fenders as well as deploy but I’d be worried about the motor taking space on the side walk.

......but you have fenders hanging from your boat all the time...
Sometimes that is a cross you have to bear.

Where we boated up until late last summer, we were in and our of locks most weekends, moored and rafted-up with other boats on both sides, etc. so we always had four large fenders on each side.

When you are going through locks, you never know if you will be port or starboard. Some locks have a lot of freeboard when full, some very little, etc. You don't have time to be swapping fenders side to side, and it's important to have some high, some low as you go up or down a lock.

All the fenders are attached with cam adjusters for easy adjustment, and they could be removed without too much trouble (although the snaps tend to stick after a while), but we really don't have anywhere to store them anyways and I find fender holders on the bow almost as ugly as pulling them up.

It's also good to have some along your rubrail when we leave the boat in case our slipmate has trouble docking when we are not there.

In the 1000 Islands I think we will reduce the number, but we will still do a lot of docking and rafting most likely so we will need them somewhere.

I never knew fender shaming was a thing until this forum :)

I made a run from a raft-up into town for dinner and left my fenders deployed one fateful evening a few years back. The very next day I read something on CSR from the fender shamers outlining the heiousness of the act. I swore never again....never again.

I run the buoy style fenders, 27 inchers. There's no "getting them out of the way". They are a huge PITA to deal with but so worth it...

I see these little buggers as one more thing that will probably fail when I really need it. It's also got the disadvantage of not being visible to the captain during operation. How will you know if the fender doesn't fully deploy, or hangs up half way down? You won't know until you hear the crunch of fiberglass??
