Any one in the Richmond area know this boat or owner?

I think the price must not be right... He have a older 310 for the same price... Did you call to confirm that Price? It seems too good to be true...

Check there site on yatch world two 04 searay 340 for sale white one with 490 hrs and blue one both 89000. They must be giving very low trade in prices when you buy a new boat.

I spoke to the broker prior to the holidays. Must have caught him at a busy time because he seemed to not know too much about the boat's details other than saying the blue hull was chalky and was pushing for me to setup a time to look at. It's 4 hours from me and I was looking for more details before commiting time. I'll follow for a bit and then determine if want to spend a saturday to take a look. But the price does look interesting.

Hey Mark,
I bought my boat through Grande Yachts in Grasonville/Kent Island. I didn't know it when I first found my boat on Yachtworld, but they deal mostly in Bank-owned boats. Mine was in great shape, a voluntary turn-in, and well under the price listed for most comparable boats on yachtworld. I was super skeptical when talking with the broker, but much to my dismay (jokingly) the boat was super clean and almost flawless. Not all on the lot were in such nice condition, but that's expected.

They are able to sell at low prices because they have no costs. Banks pay them to pick up the boats, store them, clean them, show them, and move them quickly. They charge the purchaser to sea-trail and for launch/haul costs which normally are also charged to the bank (buys them favor with the banks too). Also they have no inventory costs because if the boat sits longer than a certain time period, the banks have an agreement to take any reasonable offer presented.

All that said, I found them to be very reasonable with most requests. While looking at my boat, I noticed several things missing (like a dinette table, VHF mic, windlass manual crank handle, PFDs/safety gear), as well as some other minor maintenance needs. I researched part prices with Sea Ray and local shops, so I knew what my costs would be. They negotiated repairs and parts with the bank and discounted the purchase price by that amount plus a bit more.

Happy to talk with you about my experience if you want. Also, if you haven't already, check out Commonwealth Boat Brokers. http://www.commonwealthboatbrokers.com/vehicles.asp?vt=boat. They've had several 340's on their site recently too. Their boats tend to move pretty quickly as well, as many brokers buy from them below cost so that they have room to negotiate.

I have bought two boats off the listing agent Barrie Davenport while he was a Clark's Landing, a Sea Ray dealer.

He has dealt with Sea Ray for at least 20 years.

Barrie is a great guy and really knows his Sea Ray boats, mostly bigger boats - I would try to contact him directly if possible.

Give him a call.

I couldn't come up with his name off the top of my head, but he's the broker I purchased from as well. He's a no games, no frills kind of guy. PM me if you want his cell phone number, it's still saved in my phone.

Jim and Tcason -

Thanks for the info. This is very informative and good stuff. Always good to hear positive experiences and receive insight. Thanks

When loooking at an '04 340 Repo, I would assume the exhaust risers and manifolds will be original. I believe the 8.1s in '04 came with aluminum risers, that were notorious for premature failures. If I were you, I would try to get the maitencance records. I was able to get some of the maintenance records for my repo from Marine Max, who sold my boat to the first and second owners. It would be nice to know that the riser problem was resolved by the previous owner.

We were reliably informed (by SeaRay) that all engine S/N's prior to S/N: OW393388 are aluminium which may have the issue referred to below.

If the boat is really in Deltaville, and you could find out which marina, there are a few members on this forum who might be willing to go take a look at it for you. John Martin (GimmeTime) is someone you could pm and ask once you found the location. He is down there most weekends. Also Dave Overton (Hoos on the Bay) might be willing. He owns a 340 too.

Mark,

Let me and or Hoos on the Bay know where in Deltaville the boat is if you'd like and we will check it out for you visually as we are both down there year round on weekends for the most part. Dave has a 340 and or if you are intrested in a 370 in great condition I have a friend there that is starting his look for a 460. His boat has had an open wallet and the operation that takes care of it for him is one of the best IMHO.

John

I would be happy to run out if you wish. Just tell me where it is and what you need to know and see
