I designed ours to sound best at medium volume. Tight bass and clear mid range at low to medium volumes. You need good clean power for that. We listen at 30% volume most of the time, sometimes even less.
my second priority was to go loud enough at cruise speed to clearly hear the vocals, especially with the isinglass down
Ok, maybe I did ask for the top of the line stuff, 2 pair 7.7 JL M6, 2 pair 6.5 JL M6, 3 subs and 2 amps but that came to about $7400 + the $1500-2000 for the install. Man, talk about sticker shock. I need a reality check since my current stereo is non existent. Essentially anything would be better than nothing but there has to be a happy medium with this stuff. Now looking at a $10,000 stereo system. Can't justify it.
Going to the JL M3 cuts about $1600 off the quote. Do I look at other "lesser" brands or is this really what a decent system goes for? Mind you we are in the NE and not using the boat 12 months out of the year. I just can't imagine every boat out there is rocking a $10k stereo system. Or, am I just out of touch and being cheap??
Skar stuff looks nice.
For sure. What it sounds like is the name of the game and real clear sound is not cheap...

I'm very happy with their stuff so far, I took a gamble on them but I have a long history with car audio and I know what some of the markup and big names seem to think their stuff is worth. That's not to take anything away from JL or others but the price is hard to beat.
I did not do the 'marine' amp because I didn't need it. The standard car line is fine for me since the amp is protected in the cabin
I'll essentially need 2 identical systems, one in cockpit and the other in the cabin.
No need for LED lights, found the M6 6.5 classic grill for $430/pr. The 7.7s were going to be someway, somehow mounted in the arch and will probably need a fairly large mounting ring. Maybe just go with 6.5s all the way around.
That would get all the speakers to $1720 if I went all 6.5s but still need 2 subs and amps.
I think it would be inappropriate to ask you about what kind of parties you’re planning to have down in the cabin with that kind of a stereo. LOL.
I love the little remote but I'm cheap - do you know if we can buy the extra mount plates? I'd like to put one on my transom and then move it when we're swimming and such
https://www.earmarkcaraudio.com/……I would contact this place. They give a nice discount on JL Audio and no tax. I got all my equipment from them and then just paid labor per hour for the install here on Long Island.Ok, maybe I did ask for the top of the line stuff, 2 pair 7.7 JL M6, 2 pair 6.5 JL M6, 3 subs and 2 amps but that came to about $7400 + the $1500-2000 for the install. That’s themThat’s funny, where I am they are the new ‘cigarette’ boat guys, no shirt, barrel chested, 50yo, with boat full of young honeys. God bless them!
