$9-10k for a stereo system??? Woa, wasn't prepared for that quote

I designed ours to sound best at medium volume. Tight bass and clear mid range at low to medium volumes. You need good clean power for that. We listen at 30% volume most of the time, sometimes even less.

my second priority was to go loud enough at cruise speed to clearly hear the vocals, especially with the isinglass down

Not sure I can fit the 6.5 Skar in the current locations. 3 of the 4 are located in the sides with the vinyl covering. The forward port speaker is completely covered by the cabin door when it's opened. I'd like to move those to the arch but maybe that will be for a later date.

Ok, maybe I did ask for the top of the line stuff, 2 pair 7.7 JL M6, 2 pair 6.5 JL M6, 3 subs and 2 amps but that came to about $7400 + the $1500-2000 for the install. Man, talk about sticker shock. I need a reality check since my current stereo is non existent. Essentially anything would be better than nothing but there has to be a happy medium with this stuff. Now looking at a $10,000 stereo system. Can't justify it.

Going to the JL M3 cuts about $1600 off the quote. Do I look at other "lesser" brands or is this really what a decent system goes for? Mind you we are in the NE and not using the boat 12 months out of the year. I just can't imagine every boat out there is rocking a $10k stereo system. Or, am I just out of touch and being cheap??

If they can't appreciate what you are trying to get to, ignore them like they ignore their brother in law that spouts off about how much a boat costs. LOL!!!

So let look at this and see if we cannot achieve the goal and still save some bucks while having a killer system. First off I am not an expert on this topic, asked a lot of questions here, just am wrapping up an install, and stayed at a Holiday Inn once.

Keep the M6 speakers on a M800/8 amp, cut back to one sub on an M600/1 amp. You can add additional subs as needed and the amp for them later. (Bet you never do.)

$1100/2 M6 6.5 LED

$1160/2 M6 7.7 LED

$430/1 M6 10 Sub LED

$950/1 M800/8 Amp

$550/1 M600/1 Amp

$4190 Total equipment cost.

Could save $300 by eliminating the LED feature. You will need an LED controller also and they are $170.

Get your install costs to match this equipment bill and you have an awesome system for just under $6000

I just put 8 M3"s in my Crusiers and 6 M6 in my Chaparral 30 foot open bow. I just heard the difference in the M3 vs. M6 and am perfectly happy to have the very nice sounding M3 on the Crusiers, great sound I can hear at the helm underway and enough for what we do on that boat. The M6 are just unreal in clarity at all volume ranges. The Chaparral is comparably equipped to above except only one pair 7.7 so a M600/6 amp. WOW is all I can say...

I'll essentially need 2 identical systems, one in cockpit and the other in the cabin.

No need for LED lights, found the M6 6.5 classic grill for $499/pr. The 7.7s were going to be someway, somehow mounted in the arch and will probably need a fairly large mounting ring. Maybe just go with 6.5s all the way around.

That would get all the speakers to $2000 if I went all 6.5s but still need 2 subs and amps.

Skar stuff looks nice.

I'm very happy with their stuff so far, I took a gamble on them but I have a long history with car audio and I know what some of the markup and big names seem to think their stuff is worth. That's not to take anything away from JL or others but the price is hard to beat.

I did not do the 'marine' amp because I didn't need it. The standard car line is fine for me since the amp is protected in the cabin

the 6.5's are deep though. I needed a spacer

Kind of what I figured as well, our boats are slightly different than a center console with everything exposed to the elements. Our cabin systems won't get wet at all.

I have Polk audio real happy with it. 8 6x5s and 2 subs. 3 amps 4000 watts, Sony Wifi blue tooth head unit.

I think it would be inappropriate to ask you about what kind of parties you’re planning to have down in the cabin with that kind of a stereo. LOL.

I couldn’t pass this opportunity to comment ! Well here I go , I put a Bluetooth donagle
On my clarion CMD4 , the stereo sound is great , and I almost never get to hear/listen to the music though ,
Reasoning ! No mater how loud/soft I play the stereo , the wife Turns it down , just like the heat and AC ( I’m cold she’s hot and Vice a versa) , so I don’t win anyway you look at it , so we end up listening to everyone else music playing at the docks !!!!! I just can’t win LOLOLOL

SO in conclusion $5 or $10k it all sounds the same to me !!
And I also have 4tvs on the boat and only use the forward state room one to go to sleep !!

10k sounds reasonable. It's decent quality stuff. With that said, it's not uncommon for folks to spend 10k-20k+ on systems on my lake. I just got off a boat this past weekend and the guy spent 25k. Custom sub enclosure, 4 subs, something like 8 speakers, 2 arch speakers, 3 or 4 amps. It was unreal sounding. There's a guy on the lake who literally has a wall of speakers on his aft cabin... I think he spent 45k-65k. Insane.

I love the little remote but I'm cheap - do you know if we can buy the extra mount plates? I'd like to put one on my transom and then move it when we're swimming and such

Could you use something like this? I use these all over the place in the cars and boat. You could mount the bigger piece to the back of the remote, and the smaller thin one to the transom or wherever else you want it. The magents are really powerful:

https://www.earmarkcaraudio.com/……I would contact this place. They give a nice discount on JL Audio and no tax. I got all my equipment from them and then just paid labor per hour for the install here on Long Island.
