88 Days and counting

How does that work out for you guys staying in the water? Pros and cons? Why do you do it? I was thinking of staying in next winter. Do you wrap it or leave canvas up? Do you still winterize?

Russ, I've had the same question about winter in vs. out. I've always pulled the boat out but I am envious of my friends hanging on their boats on the few nice days we get.

Hey Brian, i'm with ya on that one....but as a newbie coming into my second season....i'm chicken to leave it in.......:wow:

We have been leaving our boats in the water since 2004. I still winterize and keep two heaters on the boat.Engine room stays about 45 to 50.Inside boat stays about the same.
I have 4 supports for the bimini that are notched for the rails and worked with almost 3 feet of snow from last year.
An ice-eater on the bow and we are good to go with a substantial savings from not pulling her out for winter storage.I figure if I am paying for the slip for a year why pay to have it on dry land.(more fuel money)
Just my 2 cents but it works for us.

What kind of heaters do you use? Could you post a couple pictures of you bimini supports?

Endless seas - Our plan is to do the same thing next year with the 400EC.
Do you use your boat at all during winter after you have winterized the raw water side of the engines?

What about zincs, bottom cleaning, painting etc?

I will probably pull my boat sometime in Sep/Oct for a week or two while I clean, check the zincs and let the boat dry out a little and check things over. If things go right with Zyrex bottom coating I won't have to paint. Then, back in she goes

Every two years ??

The supports are 4 two- by-fours notched out and I put a clean rag where they contact the bimini frames. They are cut a little longer then the measurements from the floor to the frames and slightly angled.I go down to the boat all winter long,do some projects like polish bright work in cabin, watch tv. If it's sunny out on a cold day I can still do things in the cockpit and be comfortable.Sometimes just the smell of the boat in general is a welcome change from the drabs of winter.
There are always worries by leaving your boat in but if you can visit it or have someone check on it often it is worth the savings for us and OLD MAN WINTER isn't so long.

Happy Boating

I forgot to add: the bottom gets inspected twice a year by a diver and zincs are put on.I will be pulling the boat to have the bottom painted this spring.
Now the shocker...we purchased winter of 06 and the bottom paint has held up wonderfully for 4.5 years.Hard to believe and I don't know what brand the previous owner used but I do use my boat April to Thanksgiving.

Wow...4.5 years, good for you. Are you in brackish water? I leave mine in year round too. I am lucky because my marina is in brackish water. I too have found that my bottom paint lasts longer than anticipated. I pull her every other October to paint and do the zincs. I dive under during the season to inspect and scrap a few barnicles off the trim tabs, but besides that, this rotation has really worked for me.

I am very comfortable leaving the boat in for the winter with the following conditions:

1) Great bubbler system
2) Solid shrink wrap
3) Electrical connection for heat
4) Boat is fully winterized
5) That I can get to the marina weekly to check on her.

I took a pic the other day at the marina and I will post asap.

Thanks,
-Greg

Here is what the marina looked like last week. The marina is in a cove so the water does ice up a bit, but again, the bubblers around the boat work well to keep the water around the boat slushy

That is just beyond my comprehension:wow: NO WAY could I be in that!

B&P - If you mean the paint - Zyrex is every 5 to 10 years. I should know more on that today as I have a conference call with them about their product.
We have a member who leaves his boat in year round, does pull it for cleaning the bottom, new zincs and stuff and right back in. He moves it from the Bush River, Md to Baltimore MD area. No problems.

Endless Seas - I boat on the CB and keep my boat on the Bush River. How does the diver see the bottom of the boat to clean and replace items?

Opens his eyes and he see's just fine.( just kidding) I usually have him down when the water is real clear.Several times a year it is very clear. We keep our boat at Maryland Yacht Club.Great place for the boat, one minute off the bay, fuel discounts, mobile pump outs plus pump out at the fuel dock,pool,restaurant/bar,gated.Just stay out of the POLITICS!
